Enchanter best first character?

Hello All,

I've decided to play EQ again for fun, and figured I'd be a masochist by doing so on the red server.
I'd like to start a caster as my first character. Necros are my favorite flavor wise, but I keep seeing people on these forums say that Enchanters would make the best starting class, with 0 gear. I'd be soloing 99% of the time, due to my schedule.
I don't remember enchanters being all that amazing at soloing at low or mid levels. Is there something that has changed? What makes them the best farming class?

Once you get charm the world of the enchanter opens up. Getting to 12 is kind of a slog but enchanter is really fun after that.

Shaman/Enchanter are pretty interchangeable for best farming class. The enchanters ginormous control toolkit is what makes them great for soloing. Mezzes, stuns, roots, charm, plus they get IVU and invis, to move around with impunity. Their nukes and dots are total crap compared to other classes, but a chanter with charmed/hasted pet is hands down the best dps in the game.

I'm not sure why you don't recall chanters being good on live, but one of my best buddies on live played a chanter, and there wasn't anything he couldn't solo. He had a cleric girlfriend, and I remember doing raid/epic mobs just the 3 of us. I was a monk. Of course, he was insanely good.

The great thing too is Enchanters are pretty front loaded compared to a lot of classes. By the time you hit level 12 you have pretty much everything you need to be the second fastest xp soloer next to bard, and once you get levels, the first/second best cash camper, depending on who you ask.

Enchanter is one of the most powerful PVE and PVP classes in the game. Also a good pick as it's not very gear dependent, so you won't suffer too bad wearing rags unlike say a melee

If you are just returning, and have ZERO gear, soloing wont be that easy.. but grouping will be cus everyone wants a chanter in thier group!

There's no debate that Enchanter is a better farm class than Shaman. Sorry.

Enchanter is hands down the best in this era.

I guess I shouldn't say that I don't remember enchanters being good soloers on live. They could solo amazing things. But are they better than Necro's right now? Also taking into account that I'm starting from scratch
