Tried to install new HDD laptop beeped and now ...

so long story short, found a HDD of mine i used in the past just a regular SATA 80GB HDD for a laptop. Now, i decided i would just plug this into my laptop no problem. well the laptop beeped beeped and beeped about 4 times then i just turned the computer off. took it out was like ok nevermind then! well now my Nvidia GPU is GONE yes GONE not in device manager the drivers dont detect it its not in the BIOS nothing period. i cant even tell you what GPU i have in this laptop. its is GONE.

now i have attempted system restore, safe mode, checking the bios ... windows repair EVERYTHING. and it all seems to end in ERRORS. even did a sfc/scannow in cmd said everything was 100% A-OK.

seeing as i do play games id really love some help here. and yes ... its a DELL <(

please keep the "thats what you get for getting a dell BLAH BLAH" flames to a min please it was a gift and a gift from a very technically illiterate person at that.

Pretty rare but if the HDD was shorting it could've bridged and cause the GPU to overheat and go bye bye.

US it under warranty? Just don't tell you you plugged anything in and they will not be able to to tell.

I don't like your chances of fixing it without opening it up...

It would be running off the the motherboard graphics.

yes its currently running off the intel HD 4000 ... it was only on for about 3-5secs ... about 2-3 long pause beeps ...

its not under warranty ... that expired april 2014

i can open it up but i have NO idea what iam looking at or for ... laptops confuse me ... desktops are easy mode ... laptops UGH.

How many beeps? One then stopped? Or consistent 2-3 sec beep... 2-3sec beep...

As you know from desktops these are trouble shooting beeps, also what's the EXACT model of your laptop, luckily because it is a Dell plenty of people should know how to trouble shoot :P (sorry had to put a Dell joke in thete)

Good luck fixing that OP, theres nothing worse than trying to pry a laptop open...always hidden screws/attachments.

Youtube is a great fix for this. Most of the time you can search for your model laptop and find a dissection video.

Go to the bios manufactures website and look at the beep code chart. it will tell you exactly what the beeps mean

If you cant troubleshoot /diagnose the root cause of your current issue you had no business opening up the guts of a laptop in a first place.

You should get a Mac so the Geniuses can support you, or take your shit to a licesned tech.

WTF were you doing trying to install a random 80GB drive you had laying around anyway? OP does not explain.
