I am 100% in favor of P99 Red being an exact copy of Vallon/Tallon Zek circa 1999. If you want to copy one of the classic rulesets, why not copy the only one that was so popular they had to carbon copy it onto a second server?

Soft-coded teams would also solve Knuckle's issue. If you can group and guild across teams, you don't have to worry about the population being too thinly divided among hard coded teams. Then you have the political dynamic of purist guilds vs. cross teamers and may the biggest ballsack win.

I appreciate that Sirken is trying to look for solutions. But the damage is already done. The server will always have a certain amount of interest but once you look behind the curtain and see the wizard of oz banning certain cheaters while coddling others, you can't ever return to the illusion of a level playing field.

The only way to restore that illusion is by launching a new server... not a wipe... let all 300 nihilum members keep their server and farm pixels uncontested. That's what they want, let them have it. But launch a second server with a classic ruleset such as race war or rallos zek... warts and all, keep it classic. Make the xp 300% and the timeline double the rate of an historical server timeline and make it item loot. State up front that there will be very limited GM intervention.

Then all the scum with bad attitudes will go to that server and have a blast. Nihilum will have a server where they can farm dragons with no competition, which is exactly what they want. People with good attitudes can choose Nihilum's server or blue and won't have to interact with the scum with bad attitudes. Problem solved.

Just in case my hamster analogy inspires Rogean to realize "hmm... I like hamsters... I'd rather have 600 hamsters than only 100 hamsters," let me make one last suggestion for a theoretical third server.

State at launch that the server is not permanent. State that, once the server has gone through a double-speed timeline all the way to velious, there will be a vote every 6 months after velious release asking if the players want a wipe. As soon as the majority of the population says they want a wipe, it all starts over.

That way the current red and blue servers remain the only permanent servers. Rogean promised there would never be a wipe, and he doesn't want to fail at keeping that promise. He doesn't have to. Make a separate, non-permanent server with an accelerated timeline and double xp rate and let the players know up front their toons can eventually be wiped by popular demand.

The one other thing that would make a server's integrity beyond question would be to make the character database public. If there was a way to automatically port it into a Magelo database so everybody could see every piece of gear on every character on the server, any RMT would be identified by the population immediately. I don't doubt that Nihi would still get the bulk of the raid mobs, but here's the real question. Would Nihilum have its current stranglehold on the server if Rogean had taken the same action against Nihilum that he took against Holocaust? Because I can tell you, if the punishment had been equal, the population wouldn't have dropped from 600 to 100 in a matter of days. Much as I know I'm kidding myself, I'm hoping Sirken and Rogean are going to open up the floor to real ideas like a team server. Make it hardcore as possible, no wipe, keep the current server up so customers are not stripped of their merchandise. Those who want a blue experience with optional PVP will stay put. The hardcore PvPers will go to a teams server with item loot and limited GM intervention.

Some pals are coming back for more punishment in the fall. We've been through this before on VZTZ where there's no challenging the dominant guild and you learn to ignore them and focus on the part of the game that's available to you and contesting with those who also exist in the margins. It's still the best PvP game in production at the moment. I don't hate. I appreciate.

Funny story.. Heartbrand made this big show of being magnanimous in another thread and offering me gear, PM'd me to say send him a tell in game, meet him in fp bank. When I talked to him in game all he wanted to know was am I re-apping to Nihilum. I said hell no I'm done with Nihilum.. I quit the server for 6 months I was so bored raiding uncontested. I told him I'm going to lead the resistance. He said didn't you hear I'm the Jew of P99 and I never heard from him again. Apparently he's worried that a 44 war in crafted might topple the evil empire. No twink gear for poor Narg.

Now, just to clarify, I have no problem with RMT. Used to make a grand a month selling shit on ebay, mostly on the strength of farming ee bags (not kidding). My customers were guys with good jobs and limited free time. They wanted to trade their money for my time.

What I have a problem with is anything that hurts a server so badly that it goes from 500 pop to 100 pop. If I had the talent to build a server like p99, you better believe I'd be all up in the cookie jar. But I'd be maximizing population like a mufucker.

And i don't really see RMT as an issue at all. I don't think thats hurting pop infact i think it increases pop, people with limited amnt of time just buying what they need that would never have gotten to lvl 60 or the character build they need to pvp, putting food in who evers pocket who runs this place.

So i see RMT as something that can only benefit the server. I wouldn't openly admit that its allowed, infact id "outlaw it", install some kind of "anti cheater squad" and make false bans and also ban a few legit people who did RMT to spread around that it actually does happen.

RMT is really the only last thing holding this server together, people passing down pre built characters to people who would have never started from scratch, i mean how many times has certain characters changed hands, i know personally of atleast half the people still playing today are not the originals, and infact are like 5-6th owners.

I dont claim to know what is up with blue, for all i know its probably a huge problem there. infact it probably is since they have pop. But here, right now, RMT is the only lifeline red has at the moment.

Also like to state I dont RMT in either direction on this server, i play EQ for pure entertainment and enjoy gearing and leveling my toons up myself. As many people can attest to, but many people don't have that luxury.

Keep in mind, when I was farming EE bags in lguk on Vallon Zek in 99-2000, this was 100% darkie controlled. I was deep behind enemy lines and I had to fight for every plat I made. Big difference between that and an environment where all competition has been removed.
