Default Frequent Crashing and Server Connection Issues

Hello all. I've been playing regularly for several weeks now, but just today I've run into multiple issues that may or may not all be related.

EDIT2: I am now completely unable to connect to the server, as I am met with an error every time when launching straight from the quick launch icon. Running the patcher now also gets an error. I have not changed a single thing throughout this process, and now things have gotten even worse ;_; I am seriously at a loss now.

For starters I am having issues connecting to the server itself. I have two specific issues in this regard:
  • When trying to log-in I am met with an error that I need to re-patch the game. It also tells me that running into this error multiple times could indicate issues connecting with the server. The exact error:
    Quote:
Error 1017: Cannot login to the EverQuest server. You may need to re-run the Update Patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connectivity to the Patch Server. This is usually temporary.
Usually after hitting okay and trying again, it works. This then leads into the next issue.
  • When the screen goes black after clicking the button to connect to the Project 1999 server, it never shows the loading screen. It just stays black for about 2-4 minutes, and then returns me to the main log-in screen.
  • Sometimes the game simply tells me "an unknown error occurred while trying to join the server". EDIT: This is now happening EVERY time I try and join the server when opening EverQuest through the patcher.
I'd say about a quarter of the time things go smoothly and I am logged into the character select screen. All of my characters are present, as well as their proper items and levels. When I then select a character and enter the world, about 1/4 of the time I am met with a message that I have been disconnected from the server.

I petitioned in game, and the person who responded told me to try switching characters and seeing if the zoning issue (which is my main issue; I can deal with delayed log-on, but combined with crashing at every zone in makes the game borderline unplayable =[) was character specific, but alas the game crashed when I camped and playing a different character didn't seem to make any difference.

After being able to log in and enter the world without issue, the game runs perfectly. I have no lag, I can chat in every channel I've attempted, I can fight MOBs, loot items, gain experience, interact with NPCs, etc. However every time I attempt to zone, the game crashes and I have to go through the log-in dance all over again.

I have run the EQEMU (1.24) and patched the game. When I usually play, I don't touch the patcher at all and launch right from the click launch icon I created when going through the original start-up guide for Project 1999. However when first met with the message of needing to re-patch after trying to connect to the server, I decided to use the EQEMU patcher. That is the only variable I can think of that has changed since last night (where I was having absolutely no issues). I have also tried restarting my computer. All other programs and internet connections (browser, XBOX, etc.) have been completely normal.

I'd appreciate any help in solving this issue. For those of you that took the time to read through this, thanks =]

Let me guess, you're an AT&T user?

Haha, yeah. I just saw Sirken's thread too. I'll give his fix a shot, but I'm doubtful it will work considering I've reset my modem already...

But I'm glad to hear it's not just me. I've been seriously confused as to what the issue could be.
