I'm new here but I wanted to relate an old school story. As the story is one that would technically be considered a "what not to do" story, I've decided the Rants, Flames and NSFW thread was the perfect place for it. Enjoy the story....

Back in the Kunark Era, I decided it would be a great idea to roll a chanter. I made her human (yes I play mostly female toons, if I have to stare at my character's ass for 50 levels, I want to like what I see). Also Agnostic, but that's because it's best for a chanter to be skeptical.

Anyway, all things were going fine until I hit level 9. Then I had issues getting decent groups for Blackburrow. I decided a change of scenery was an order. Freeport was looking quite promising.

I tried to get a port since I was still really new at the game and didn't know my way around. I couldn't get one, no one wanted to give out a free port since that was how most wizards and druids got their money in those days. So I finally started asking in chat how to physically get from Qeynos to Freeport without the aid of teleportation magic. The route was explained to me and I realized it was going to be dangerous, but I laugh in the face of danger so I decided to try the run. After getting my food and drink supplies together for what was to be a run that would take some time.

Leaving North Qeynos, I managed to get though Qeynos Hills just fine. West Karana was a cinch. North Karana was a bit iffy since I saw a few flying monstrosities that wanted to eat my face. Thank goodness for invisibility.

East Karana was iffy but only the first half. The rest (as you likely know) is a boring run up the path to High Pass. I got lost in High Pass but I was okay in the end and managed to make it to Kithicor.

That's when disaster struck. Whoever told me about the run neglected to mention Kithocor's unique day not cycle. When I entered the zone, it was night time. I took about 12 steps and saw a zombie. Saw it was a red con and it aggro. I ran for the zone line but it was just a little faster than me....

Realizing I needed to get my stuff back, I tried again. I manged to make it to Highpass, but got lost again. This time invisibility didn't hold. When I tried to recast it, I chain fizzled until I was spotted by Gnoll shaman of some kind. I ran for my life but never managed to figure out where I needed to go and eventually, the Gnoll caught up to me....

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...

I gave up and thought my equipment was lost. I had decent hand me downs from a friend too...

Much later, when I was actually more experienced with the character I managed to make a run from Freeport to Rivervale. I was told to join up with an orc group in High Pass and carefully made my way through Kith, knowing now that a night time jog though there is tantamount to suicide.

But I got my stuff back. My corpse was still there, precisely one step from the zone line. Had the zombie not one-shotted me, I would have been pushed over the line by the knockback.

And yet the "holy water" variant for agnostics is called "Water of the Skeptic".

Yeah right. 1st, my highest level character at the moment is 5th level. 2nd (and most importantly) I don't duel chanters. It's suicide.

Thanks for sharing your story Sep.. I Was entertained. And i can connect with the feeling of having a red mob chase you.. If that dosent raise your pulse i dont know what does!! That zone is a scary place for and low lvl!
