Default Crashing client on a Mac

I posted up in the "HOW TO" for Mac users, but that thread doesn't seem to be bouncing hah.

Anyways, I copied my EQ files from a PC to a Mac, which the guide says is fine to do. I have it set in windowed mode, the resolution is something smaller than my actual screen, etc. Yet after I select my character I get an error message saying my client crashed and asks if I want to send the error message to tech support. I also tried using a clean and fresh eqclient.ini. The other guide within that thread mentions this, yet I get the same error. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can't see what I am doing wrong.

Thanks!

Check if your eqclient.ini is really eqclient.ini.txt. Also make sure the resolution is a supported resolution and not something weird. I followed those instructions with a clean install and after a couple crashes (all which were mentioned in the thread and had solutions available, they were all user error) its all working great now, minus mouse look being limited to 180 degrees and no fullscreen.

Yep it is eqclient.ini still. When I click on the file it says "Unix Executable File" under the "Kind" section. I set it to 800x600, I assumed that would be a good enough resolution, are there other ones I should try?

Thank you for your replies. I can't find any "egg" files in my P99 folder, did a search for them. Also, I am brand new to Mac so still confused about extracting files and such. I extracted the correct file (according to the guide) but it wouldn't let me extract it into the P99 folder because that folder is in the "Applications" section, and Project 1999 is grayed out. Can I save the P99 folder in another spot or something? I was able to put the files in there my manually clicking and dragging them in, but I can't extract.

Alright I tried installing from the disks, that didn't work either. I tried doing the steps in the other guide, making a barebones eqclient.ini, that didn't work. This is starting to get extremely frustrating because I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I followed the instructions the exact way they were given on both guides and still get crashed after the character select screen. Any more help out there?

**EDIT**
I tried using the second method again, this time going off of backup ISO's. The directions say "if you backed up your discs to ISO files, double-click the first one and it’ll mount on your desktop. Navigate to disc 1 and choose setup.exe." I can't do this, I don't know why but while using Wineskin the first ISO is grayed out, no clicking or right clicking lets me get in there to the setup.exe file.

You have to mount the iso before you can navigate into it. What happens when you double click it? Those are the exact steps I used (did the iso version)

When I double click it opens the ISO up so I can see all the files in it. I tried running setup.exe and that didn't work (figured it wouldn't, just thought I would give it a shot). I tried running Wine but it won't let me open the file to get to setup.exe when I do it that way.

Thank you for your reply by the way, really hoping to get this to work.

**EDIT**

Alright so I experimented and used another program to install EQ, yet I am still getting that client crashed error...I did an install from scratch using phobus' method.

If the client is crashing its probably because you are trying to load the game fullscreen. make sure your eqclient.ini has windowedMode = true or whatever is in the setup instructions.

Windows mode is set to true, and the resolution is small enough to work with my screen, I have tried multiple other resolution specs as well, still nothing.
