Default EQ New Player Questions

Hi all,

First, let me apologize, I am sure these questions get asked a ton on these boards.

I briefly played on this server about a year ago and had a blast. Unfortunately I didn't stay long due to real life issues. I am now returning and just had a few questions for all you guys who have been here a while.

1. How is the populations? Will I be able to find friends and enough people to group with here? I am not interested in power leveling to max level as fast as possible, just in it for the journey but would hate to come back to a ghost town!

2. I am thinking of rolling as a DE SK. Is this a horrible decision based on the fact that I would be a melee (not very solo friendly) and have a rough exp penalty? As I said, I don't need to level the fastest, but is the penalty so bad that people don't want to group with you and/or it is horribly slow leveling? Are tanks needed on this server? Are SK's viable end game?

3. Any friendly guilds out there that would be willing to take on a new player? My number one goal here is to make friends and have fun!

Thanks guys! Very excited to be coming back to ORIGINAL EQ =)

1. Server pop hits ~700+ on Sundays. I've had no issue finding groups so far, but I cannot speak to grouping over level 30 (yet).

2. My main is a Troll SK. It's slower, but I enjoy the journey so I don't really notice the grind as much. Typically only when I start getting close to a new skill or tier of spells do I notice it. The exp group penalty isn't an issue if you group with good, competent players. I wouldn't worry about it. Tanks, just like all the staple classes are needed in group scenarios. SKs are viable, but if you are worried about getting passed over as MT on a raid due to a Warrior being available, yes it's going to happen.

Play what you want and don't worry so much about level 60 and what your "job" is going to be at the "end" game. Power gaming only leads to unnecessary anxiety anyway.

3. n00b guilds. There are a few, check the guild forum. At the low levels guilds are really only good for some free shit and maybe some PL. Other than that, I tend to avoid them due to retarded drama and other "mandatory" bullshit.

Thank you Grozmok for the great response! It's great to know how many ppl play here I had no idea.

I totally agree about playing what you want so I think I will go for it and roll a DE SK like i've always wanted. Good to hear that while the penalty is there, it doesn't preclude you from groups (grouping is what im most looking forward to).

So anyways, i'll be making my char tonight. Name will be Ziin, wandering aimlessly around Nektulos trying not to get killed lol! Hope to see you in game and thanks again!
