Default Pulling my hair out trying to get re-installed

First, thank you in advance to anyone who can help me with this. I've been searching and googling for about an hour now and I seem to keep digging a bigger hole for myself.

About a year ago I rebuilt our computers to play some of the newer games....I backed up my entire P99 directory on a flash drive and moved it back after the rebuild, but this is the first time in a year I've had time to play here and I've yet to fix the problem I've had since. For whatever reason, whenever I launch EQ it starts to load, then I get the "eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error window.....

I tried some of the things I found suggested for that in the archive here as well as some links that popped up elsewhere but nothing seems to work. I originally assumed it was a directx issue, but none of the searches I've done indicates that. I was certain I installed the right one anyway, but it was just my assumption. I honestly have no clue what is going on. That's the main issue.....The fact that I'm not entirely sure what my issue actually is. I never had any multi-core issues before, so if that's the problem now, I'm not sure how to recognize it, really.

Thinking I might just be better off doing a fresh install of titanium, setting up P99 step by step, and then re-integrating my INIs and whatnot in steps making sure it all works as I go, I got out my Titanium discs and attempted a clean install. I have played EQ Live since I've played here, and I currently have a copy of the legit game in the default SOE folder etc. The Titanium installer, apparently, sees this and doesn't want to allow me the option of another install. Instead, all I can do is "Modify" "Repair" or "Remove". I tried renaming the SOE folder temporarily to throw it off the trail, but no dice.

I feel like I'm completely stuck. Help? All I know to do is completely uninstall all instances of EQ and start over, but I really don't want to do that as I plan to actually play live again sometime and don't want to have to deal with setting it all up again.

Any help anyone can give would be VERY much appreciated. I'm pretty good with these things but this one is above my pay grade, so to speak.

Thank you!

So I finally just decided to uninstall everything EQ related and start over with a fresh Titanium install. Backed up my Live files, uninstalled, and deleted everything and reloaded Titanium from the discs. Then I went thru the setup process as described in "Getting Started."

Same problem as before. Everytime I try to launch the game, it starts to load and then I get "eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Back to square one. And I have no clue as to what my problem even relates to, much less how to fix it. I even loaded the various patchers and tried running with 1 CPU etc. No dice. For the record, I'm running 32 bit XP and directx 9.1c, as I have for years and years. Never had an issue like this in EQ here or live till now.

I'm going to try the multi-core fix from the sticky and see how that goes, but I'm not even sure that's my issue. If anyone can offer any help at all, I would certainly appreciate it. I'm sick of TV and xbox!

Help?

WinEQ2 appears to allow me to run the emulator, so I guess it was some kind of multicore issue. I assume.

With that established, is there a way to configure the game to not require WinEQ2? There seem to be a lot of workarounds, but I'm still not even entirely sure what my actual issue is. Neither Duxas nor the EQemu patcher launch the game for me, and the available compatability modes do nothing. I can't launch the game without winEQ2, and once that's running, that's the running process the Taskmanager sees, not the game.

I guess my remaining question is this: Under 32Bit XP Pro, SP3, how does one limit an application to a single core? I've read thru the multicore thread, and I'm confused as all hell. Never had to deal with anything like this before.

Any help anyone can offer would be VERY much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

When I installed Titanium it installed in a different folder from my EQ live without complaining, so I guess not all Titanium installers are the same.

Do you have the latest video drivers installed?
Do other DirectX based games run fine on this system?

Indeed. This is the only problem I've had with this box with any game.
