Default Forager Bag stats

Trying to find more research on what was WRONG with the Forager Bag weight reduce, before the EQ Live November 2000 patch

"Repaired the Forager Bag. It was causing people to lose weight when placing items in the bag. It is supposed to have a weight reduction component, but was not supposed to cause weight loss."

Can't find that much on it...

The original bag was supposed to reduce the weight of its contents by 25%. Apparently, somebody misplaced a decimal or something in the code and it reduced the weight by 250% instead. In addition to making any race/class into a virtual pack mule with greatly reduced falling damage, the original Forager's Bag allowed monks to pretty much ignore weight when choosing equipment.

According to this post:

Some trivia: this thing was one of the best bags in Classic due to a bug. Normally if you put a 10 pound item in a 50% weight reduction bag, your weight would go from say 150 to 155. Due to a classic bug, it actually subtracted the reduction straight from your starting weight; in this case you'd go from 150 to 145 by placing a 10 pound item in the bag. Alas, it works bugfree on Project 1999

Default I speak from experience

A few of my RL friends and I had this bag pre-nerf. We all did the math and it was obvious the bag was reducing the weight of whatever you put in it by 250%. We checked and rechecked using various heavy objects like bricks of ore etc. If you placed enough weight in the bag, your total weight would lessen... by 250% of whatever was in the bag. The bag's pre-nerf description said it was supposed to reduce the weight of the contents by 25% and it was changed to 50% and allowed larger items iirc when they nerfed it. Also, if this was a "classic bug" in general, why was the Forager's Bag the only weight-reduction bag affected? It sure seems like this was an error limited to the Forager's Bag.

edit: Back then I regularly duo-ed with a monk (I played a shaman at the time) who used it to great advantage. She was constantly being told she was way over her weight limit, but she just played stupid and kept tanking away.
