![]() I believe the Gnoll Slayer reward for our server is non-classic.
The original reward should be the 6/28 sword, later adding the 15/40 version along with Bane Damage. I cant find anything to prove this for links, but the fact all posts are from 2002 on allakhazam show's its nothing classic. Quest description: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=676 One eyed gnoll: http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=8186 Val Scribe: http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=8185 All 2002 or higher posts, after Velious. Think about it, a 15 damage sword that can be used in off hand in 1999, usable by 6 classes? And yes, ill expect hate post from people who already done the quest.

![]() I've posted the same as well, but it fell off out of sight. The 15/40 gnoll slayer is not a classic item and instead dates from the Luclin-era revamp of the quest line.

![]() In other situations where there is no 99-01 proof, but enough to show that chances are its not, that item / mob / spell, whatever, was removed or adjusted.
There is more then enough here to show that it is not classic, can we please at least get a dev reply on the situation?

![]() It's only been 2 days :P
Pending update: -Removed the additional quest text from Marton. -Changed uber Gnoll Slayer to the 6/28 Gnoll Slayer with no bane dmg. Need more evidence before taking away the magic tag. Good find though, let me know what all needs to happen here.

![]() The text dated back to at least May 2000:
The Gnoll Slayer: Marton Sayor in the cottage in Qeynos Hills is concerned about the safety of his infant son. He says he will give you the gnoll slayer long sword if you help him. Marton mentions a named gnoll named Lord Elgnub who speaks common tongue, and has threatened his family. Well, Lord Elgnub can occasionally be found wandering around blackburrow. He looks like a Splitpaw Gnoll and is approximately level 20. If you kill him you will get a lore/no drop item Baby Joseph Slayer. Take the baby back to his father and the grateful man will give you a Gnoll Slayer sword, which is a 1H slashing, 6/28 lore weapon. Not altogether exciting, but he mentions something about the true potential of the sword. If you inquire further, he mentions there was once an enchantment placed upon a gnolls eye which was embedded in the sword that gave the sword powers to protect against disease and call forth a wolf to fight for you. (Sounds like the scimitar of the Mistwalker). He then says this eye has been stolen, along with the only book that can restore the enchantment and eye to the sword. The thief is a great, one-eyed, white gnoll. I have been told that you need to give him a preserved gnoll eye and a gnoll hide tome along with the sword and he will give you back a better version ot the gnoll slayer (the stats I was given were 9/30, +10 sv disease, and summons a wolf). I haven't confirmed this yet. ----------- ----------- It would appear that no one on Allakhazam knew how to complete the quest at the time. But there is no indication that the mobs were not in the game at the time. Regardless, the initial sword you obtain from the Blackburrow quest is the 6/28 version. However, the upgraded version you quest from Split Paw is what was in question. Having gone through hours of work camping the named mobs I would like to make sure we have the undeniable proof that these mobs were not in the game after the revamp was made to Split Paw. My Bard really enjoys having it even if it is pretty slow, but I will live without it if it goes poof, life goes on. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

![]() You don't need 'proof' that the 15/40 version isn't classic. The 15/40 ratio on a weapon for a dual-wield class is proof enough all on its own. That's far superior to other weapons you could obtain at that level range (which are typically in the 3-4 or so ratio range, see Brazen Brazz kilij, Crystalline Blade, Runed Falchion, etc) and is actually a better ratio than an SSOY. In fact it's nearly equivalent to some planar weapons such as the 15/38 Spirioc Wingblade in Sky (no wonder your bard likes having it, heh).
Additionally, browsing archived versions of EQ equipment sites show absolutely no trace of that weapon prior to Luclin. It was pretty common knowledge that the second step of the quest was broken for a very, very long time. Even the first step for the 6/28 sword periodically broke. Screenshots of the initial Gnoll Slayer show it as non-magical as late as 2001, here's a 2001-era link: http://web.archive.org/web/200108231....html?item=233 Some folks claimed to have found the second version prior to Luclin, but such claims were invariably rumors without evidence. ![]() Just out of curiosity, how many of these things are floating around on the server.
It seems like a whole lot of fuss over some poor bard who spent who knows how many hours completing this quest. I doubt he's going to be tanking dragons on raids because of it. Now if every level 50 tank was running around with these that would be a different story, but I don't think that's the case.
