Default Questions

Old school EQ player here thinking of starting up a character here for the nostalgia since playing the game with all the new stuff just isn't doing it for me.

What is level experience currently like? Is everyone mostly max level so I would be pretty much soloing my way through?

Is the population here spread out? Will I ever see another soul running around?

Thanks in advance.

This server has been on Kunark for 2 years. Most players have at least one 50+ player. That being said, a lot of players have alts as well. You can usually find a group at any level, but you'll find the most in the 50s. Leveling is classic: aka slow. The good news is most players are smarter than they were on Live in 1999-2001, so camps are usually larger because groups can more efficiently kill more mobs per respawn (meaning you level faster as well). You will definitely see other players running around, unless you intentionally seclude yourself in the far reaches of Norrath.

A lot of players are high level, but many of them create alts (and contrary to what a bunch of loudmouths on the forums will tell you, most alts on the server aren't supertwinks that just solo or get PLed 1-60) and there are also a lot of 1st time players on the server. I am always surprised with how many truly new players I see on here.

There are plenty of groups during primetime, especially in the popular grouping zones (biggest ones are crushbone, oasis, mistmoore, city of mist, karnors probably, but quite a few other zones are busy too like SK and LOIO and DL and such). If you play in the mornings (est) or are trying to find groups in permafrost/dalnirs/etc groups will be harder to come by.

You'll see a lot of people around though. 700+ peak lately the last couple weeks is more than enough to make classic + kunark feel alive and well.

If you know where to go, you will almost always be able to find people to group with. Certain zones are quite popular on P99, such as Unrest, Oasis, Frontier Mountains, Mistmoore, City of Mist, Karnors, etc etc etc.

I have grouped in almost every zone in the game at one time or another, sometimes because I made the group myself. Lately I've seen enterprising individuals forming groups and going into Droga for exp/phat loot!

A large proportion of players are higher level. There are many players in the teens and 20's, then the population dips in the 30's and 40's before running into the clump of people in the 50's. Even when the population was 450-500ish primetime, I never had problems finding groups at those levels. There are certain zones that will almost always have groups or people.

Yes, constantly.

It seems there are a ton of characters 1-30, and 45-60. It's been rough lately trying to find a group on my 34 warrior, and I play during prime time. Yesterday I saw a group of like 4 enchanters, how can I compete with that [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Probably hard to answer but is there a pretty good balance of classes?

Are there a lot of Enchanters? Back when I played as an Enchanter it seemed like there were not many of us.

http://p1999pop.dmsimard.com/db/Classes ... not updated too recently but it is probably still pretty much spot on.

Server can probably stand to have more clerics, both for groups leveling up and for raids, but other than that I think things are pretty balanced.

So out of curiosity... What is the different between P99 and SOE's Time Lock Progression servers? Are they similar at all?

the timelocked progression servers were sad

they use current and stronger damage/pet/spell/etc tables, wildly out of era content from day 1, spell mods on "classic" items

it was fun to play them with a bunch of people again for that fresh new feeling, but it advanced far too quickly to be any fun, and the poopsockers/cheaters were rampant and went unpoliced
