Default New Player Intro

Hi Guys,

My gaming name as of late has been Eastwood, kind of inspired by a truely badass old actor, and it's kind of woodsy rangery which is how I like it. I'm an Ultima Online veteran until EQ came out in 1999, I started the game on day 2 and fooled around a lot, never made it to level cap hehe.

My most serious character in EQ was a ranger on Rodcet Nife named Kalaner. I was also a teenager and immature those days so I screwed around, made twinks, and was around level 36 by the time Kunark came out and made it to level 56 during the Velious era before quitting the game.

I just found out about this server today after getting kind of bored of UO Nostalgia servers, and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

My main concerns are the lower server population of an emulator server. If I make a barbarian warrior am I going to be blind, and desperately looking for people to group with?

On the other side of that I am not at all interested in playing a super solo class.

Classes that interest me are Shamans, Warriors, Rogues, Rangers, and maybe Bards.

Ranger is a class I loved but I know they suxored for most of the era, especially Kunark. Warriors are great because I love tanking and armor and weapons but my concern is that it is a horrible class to solo with. Without RL friends to join me in EQ will I be really hurting for groups at times?

Shaman is pretty high on my list, any thoughts guys? I was looking for new player starting tips type of threads on the forum and library but did not see any. Is there an active enough population on this server that I could find groups to do dungeons with? I remember EQ was very cliquey with the high end guilds and I never found it possible to get into any raid client except with extremely scrubby guilds that implode after their first failed raid.

Thanks for the advice ahead of time.

Groups are generally easy to find if you go to the "hot spots." which are basically Crushbone or Freeport. If there are enough people around Qeynos blackburrow is awesome for XP with the fangs but by the time you hit 10 or so you will be ready to trek to Freeport.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I'm going to get an RL friend to join this server as well he's an EQ vet.

So, grouping is viable, happy to hear that!

I'm in the process of installing the EQ Titanium client. Is there a simpler process for this? I've had to use bittorrent for my first time tonight, then Daemon, and now I'm having windows vista related problems with the installation. Hopefully I get online in another hour.

But for my friends and future users, is it always going to be an uphill battle to log on for the first time?

To answer some of your questions Eastwood....

Warriors are basically broken. Taunt does not work well and they have problems holding aggro. Kunark they become awesome.

Shamans...lots of em....LOTS

Rangers...never enough of them. Yes, i am one of those people who laugh everytime they die and hearing "ranger down" NEVER gets old.

My advice is play what you want to play. You want to try shaman...hey, I play one and love it. You want to be a warrior, go for it. Point is, you are here and its still as fun as it was back in 1999.

My favorite classes in the running right now are Warrior and Ranger.

You say rangers are actually in demand? Are you serious?

Warriors are broken? Well I guess they were not superb pre-Kunark, but what do people want for tanks then?

I like tanking, I tanked a lot in Wow and I enjoy being a class that's in need for groups and raids.

So if I want to tank is warrior the good way to go? SK?

SK is a good way to go IMO. Sure, they get an experience penalty, but they can hold aggro well with their spells. Also, they have a lot of perks such as pets, snare, fear, possibly feign death and life taps? not sure, but it's awesome. I want to try an Erudite SK myself because I think they just look badass. With a warrior, you get duel wield and no penalty, if anything I think they get an EXP bonus. If you want to go traditional great tank, play an Ogre SK or Warrior.
