Default Was the EXP penalty in classic?

I was wondering if the race / class EXP penalties were in classic EQ or is it just something they do for this server? getting 20% less exp just because of your race seems like a big disadvantage.

Get's much worse than 20% if you are a hybrid I'm afraid.

The races that have penalties also have racial bonuses that the non-penalty races do not.

Ogres - Frontal stun immunity and Slam
Trolls - Regen and Slam
Iksar - Regen, Innate AC bonus, Forage, Start with Swim (100)
Barbarian - Slam

If you feel that the disadvantage is big, there are a large number of races to choose from that have no penalty. There is even a race with a bonus.

So when you all say yes, were you answering yes to the first or second part of the Question? Was the penalty of race / class in the old classic live version of EQ?
