Exclamation P1999 Privacy Concerns

I would like to address some privacy concerns in regards to P1999. I am aware that there are concerns of people boxing and hacking on P1999. I have been aware that the anti-cheat functionality ran by the GMs on the servers allow them to basically snoop on your system and look to see if any hacking programs or boxing is going on. I have no issues with this and support it. But, I am also aware that this function gives the GMs the ability to snoop into your system and see your computer name and other things. I have been forced to use my computer for work related issues that are sensitive due to the current Corona Virus outbreak and thus need to address this issue.

With ignorance set aside let us agree that yes, this is a private/third party software that I have decided to use (P1999).

I would like to know why there is no EULA or statement from the P1999 team stating to what extent their anti-cheat software/code does and what data is visible to them by me agreeing to playing P1999. If this was addressed clearly I would gladly return to playing this game as I have been an EQ player since its original inception and have supported the Project 1999 efforts since its launch.

I am a proponent of privacy and simply want some clarity from the staff that run this wonderful game to clear things up for us loyal players.

This is not some futile attempt to circumnavigate the anti-cheat/anti-boxing mechanisms but only to get some transparency that any software user deserves, particularly one that is loyal and supportive.

Please post any relevant and coherent commentary bellow, and refrain from making childish references to tin foil hats, hackers or other idiocy. Thank you and have a good day. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

short answer, No they can't "Snoop" your computer. They can't look at your files or see what your work is about etc.

Honestly if privacy is your greatest concern don't use any other software than what your company deems acceptable on your workstation. (and even then companies can recommend some shady software)
Who's to say your work isn't spying on your computer? <- sorry tinfoil hat

Your computer's name is not a secure piece of information. It's practically a username for every piece of software you run.

If you're still deeply concerned, Learn about Virual Machines and run it in a fresh windows VM. That will alleviate much of your concern but please note that you still need to follow the P99 rules.
And we can't assist you in how to set that up. There are plenty of guides/tutorials online for legitimate use.

As stated earlier - I am forced to use my home computer to do work related business. I am not using a "company issued" laptop. I have stopped playing P1999 since doing so until my answer is cleared up.

I would hope a GM can reply back to this thread and explain the specifics of what is being done during the anti-cheating. As far as VM, I have attempted to run EQ in Oracle's Virtualbox but no character models are displaying, this is not the point but rather I would just like an explanation of what EQ1999 anti-cheat is doing and what I am agreeing to by playing EQ1999.
