Spells: Ice Giants and Wiz Spell "Rend"

Ran into an interesting potential bug today. Decided now that I'm 49 I'd check out Ice Giants outside of Permafrost for nostalgic purposes. Looked at my spells, decided to try Ice Comet... resisted. No surprises here as they are ice giants. Rooted it with no issues, and loaded the magic DD 'Rend'. Resisted Rend. Tried again... resisted Rend. Casted six more times and resisted Rend.

Now Rend is a magic based spell, so I have no idea why a blue con mob that Root/Snare lands on would be fully immune to Rend.

Conflagration works fine on them/works from a distance.

Is this a bug in the code?

Fire giants are. Ice giants are not. I'm landing Conflag on them consistently from a distance.

I think this is just bellycasting fix in action.

I recently discovered though that Rend was actually mistakenly Cold resist until March 2000. Was going to post that to the bug forums.

I tried to belly cast with Rend. Same result. I suspect Rend is mistakenly on cold resist... can a GM comment on this?

Looks like Rend was Cold based until March 2000. Silly Verant.

Classic bug.

HOWEVER, I also see evidence that ice giants also had low cold resistance until fall of 1999 or so. I will compile that tomorrow.

So, a classically created bug thats "purposely implemented until 2000 era". Does that mean we're looking for it to be "fixed" pre Kunark?
