Spells: NPC charm - still dmg by other NPCs

I was in HHK yesterday killing the guards, i killed all on the main floor and started to go upstairs. When i tried to pull the 2 guards that guard the top of the stairwell, right before it opens up to the 2nd floor with the casino tables. Well i agroed the two guards, then ran downstairs so i would have more room to deal with them, instead of coming down the stairs, they warped through the floor, when they did, they brought all those bard GM NPCs with them for some reason. So i start running for the zone line, and I'm about to make it when i get charmed by one of the bard NPCs.

After i get charmed, i start running back to the train of NPCs. Once i get back to the bard NPC who charmed me, my char tries to start casting spells on my team member who was also running for the zone. During this time, I am still getting attacked by the guards.

The way i recall being charmed worked, is you became the "pet" of that NPC until charm wore off. While you were charmed, the other NPCs would not attack you, but as soon as charm wore off you, they would go back to attacking you.

I should have taken screen shots but didn't =(. I'm not 100% sure, but I am pretty sure i died to the guards while still under the effect of charm. I know i did lose exp. I am 100% certain that the guards were attacking me while under the effect of charm. I still had the charm debuff on my screen and i was trying to DoT my teammate and i was getting beat down by the guards. I also reviewed my combat log afterwards just to be sure. It showed the guards attacking me even while i was charmed and trying to cast a hostile spell on my group member.
