Game Mechanics: Strong Poison

I got poisoned by a revultant rat in Plane of Hate. I used Abolish Poison on myself and saw the spell effect icon go away. After that I continued with the CR we were on not paying attention to my health. Then, all of a sudden, I was killed by the dot I thought I had removed.

Not sure what the deal is but thought it would be worth mentioning.

Same thing just happened with Trak's dot. Used abolish poison, saw the effect icon go away, dot kept killing me.
