Everquest melts my computer

When I play EQ the back of my computer sometimes gets too hot to touch. WoW is more graphic-intensive and never once did that.

Damn bro that is really bad you maybe doing permanent damage. I have 2 EQ clients, an EQEmu server running, Visual Studio, MacroQuest2, and Chrome running right now on an old p.o.s. laptop and not anywhere close wut.

Makes it hard to PvP bro, because if my laptop raised by just one degree (which it does a lot) then it gos into fail-safe mode and shuts down til it drops below 145 degrees

I noticed when running SpeedFan that all three of my fans are at 0RPM and have no graphical data, so I don't know if that feature doesn't work or perhaps my vents and fans either:

A) are overly clogged so there is little to no air flow leaving and it only accumulates over time (I don't even feel airflow coming out of my laptop only going in)

or

B) They've completely shorted and my computer only maintains cooling through the cooling pad at the moment.

Even when I'm running just these forums I'm rising from 144 to 157 and back down frequently so I can only assume it's the cooling pad doing most of the work

Could be a heat sink issue, too, though dust is more likely.

As already said, it's got to be one of those two things. If you altered you cpu at all, that could potentially do it so make sure it's at default if cmos/bios. If not, pull the panel off and get all of the dust out. It's easier with an air pump or something, but whatever gets it done will work. Also, worst case scenario is that it is the heat sink, so you may need to have a new one installed on to your cpu. Nothing too expensive at stake here, of course unless you fry your processor up :P

My comp also gets REAL hot when playing but I think for me it has to do with forcing the game to run on a single core. I had to do this to alleviate slow/stuttered gameplay (which has returned for some mysterious reason). I only noticed the heat after i switched the settings for eq, and eq is the only application i have that makes my comp get so hot.
