![]() Now when I’m trying to make fun of someone for getting upset over EQ I have to exaggerate by calling it a 25-yo elf sim. Truly a momentous day.

![]() At this point, I kinda think rather than a reflection of how sad the neck beards still playing are, it is more a testament to how the game has withstood the test of time!

![]() Now was EQ really good or just addictive and we were just jonesing for the dopamine rush we used to get as teenagers? I think there’s a strong connection between what makes this game and gambling “fun”. Maybe it’s the sense of community instead, which also happens to be a strong marketing tactic in gambling.

Of course they could have done some things better (stats / resists more relevant, curb some cheesy tactics like FD splitting, etc). By and large the lore and intrigue was addicting to me (discovering new things) , as was experiencing everything with your friends all at once. Best I had before that was DOOM II for a LAN party every month.
