Default Wiki Points to Wrong Rules

Currently the front page of the wiki has this URL as it's link for "Server Rules": http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1057

The only problem is ...

Quote:
NOTE: This is an older draft of the rules. When we switched forums somehow the new draft of rules was lost. We apologize for not having them up on the forums. Just something that kind of got forgotten/left behind during the move.
At the very least it'd be nice if we could make it point to the correct URL.

What I think would be really nice though is if it could point to a page on the wiki, and link to the correct server rules at the top of that page. Why? Because then people could add quotes from GMs from the forums (with links back to the forum of course) which help explain the rules further down the page. Currently (without such a page) those GM replies get lost in the forum, and I inevitably see someone asking the same question before long.

I realize one major problem with this idea would be that anyone could edit the page to add crazy stuff (the link to the forum would expose it, but still). However if that problem could be solved (eg. only let GMs edit the page) I truly believe that a combination rules/ruling page could be very valuable to the server ... and if that's not possible let's at least fix the link.

TLDR: The rules link in the wiki is broken: we could fix it, OR we could use the wiki to make it so the staff doesn't have to keep repeating the same rules answers over and over (and so that it's easier for anyone on the server to learn the rules).

Could see where there may be some confusion about the rules. There is only one rule really be nice to everyone and they will be nice to you.

I agree with the dude, we only need the golden rule. Start listing them all and loop holes appear, get exploited, people cry 'Show me where that is written', etc.

nothing wrong with that OP. the rules are intentionally vague to limit lawyering.

The golden rule would be great, except that people are involved.
Extremely precise rules do not work, because you can't capture all the possible variations.
Extremely vague rules do not work, because you can't use them as a valid basis for punishment.
Somewhere in the middle is a sweet spot where they sort of work. That's as good as it gets.

This is probably the only game on the internet where people would actually read 100 pages of an EULA in precise detail.

...and then use it to their own ends.

Thank you, it's appreciated.

To everyone else: I'm not saying there's some magical perfect rules document out there that will make everyone behave well, and I'm not saying we shouldn't all follow the golden rule.

But even two very nice people might accidentally get in a dispute over a mob, and right now if one of them is a ForumQuestor they'll likely know about FTE, what constitutes a camp in a dungeon, etc. Something like "if you have two camps and someone wants one, you have to pick one camp" isn't a crazy esoteric GM interpretation, it's a simple rule everyone should follow. I don't see why we should hide that knowledge from new people and non-ForumQuestors, and if we just let it "drip down" from ForumQuestors to the rest of the server then we're making the people at the bottom learn the rules through a game of "telephone".

Also, if there were no rules except the golden one we wouldn't have a rules page [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]. All I'm saying is, can we add some things that many of us ForumQuestors already know from reading that thread where the GM said that thing one time, and instead make them as widely available as possible to everyone (eg. by adding them to the rules page).
