Game Mechanics: Being casted on while pet is tanking?

I've experienced this with both my magician and my enchanter when charm petting. When attacking something that casts spells, like the goblins in Oasis, I will occasionally get hit by a spell such as stun or fear.

This occurs despite never buffing, never sitting down, never engaging.

The same thing happened to me on my magician last night in the paw entry room. Pet had caster mob meleeing and nuking him, but then without turning or other indication of target change, I would get nuked several times.
