![]() How is a new player even supposed to figure this game out anymore? I know why the chat filters are in place, but they are overly strong and make the game unplayable for a new player.
Since the filter was implemented, I've tried to get 3 different rl friends to try p99 and each time it's the same. You're over at their house, so you can't log in without an IP exemption that takes weeks to get, so they roll a fresh level 1 on their own. "See that guy in the druid guild? That's another player. You should send him a message and ask if he has some money you can get spells with" But they can't, because of the chat filter. They get frustrated and log out. Then I have to explain the greengrocer thing. Then they question if a GM ever even made a level 1 to play test this new "feature" to see how it affected gameplay. Hint: nobody ever did. TL;DR Chat filter is retarded and discourages new players from trying the game. It should not affect the /tell channel, nor should it be as strict as it is. Strong filters make sense for red /ooc and only in the EC zone on blue, there's no reason to have such strict filters on local or private channels. Posting because somebody has to be a voice for new players, this is fucked.

"hi am new buff?" "So how are you enjoying p99" Message not sent due to chat filter restrictions. Message not sent due to chat filter restrictions. Message not sent due to chat filter restrictions. Person leaves. You're now alone again. It doesn't even tell you how long till you can send a message again. Sometimes it seems like 10 seconds. Other times it feels like 5 minutes. It's kinda rubbish. Could be streamlined a heck of a lot better.

![]() I send tells all the time on my lvl 1 EC mule. I guess I will have to load it up and talk a lot more.
Not to start a fight but if you are introducing a friend to EQ and playing with them use a voice chat. Also getting to lvl 5 isn't that hard even if you have no idea what you are doing. Smack mobs get exp. If your starting to beg already at lvl 1 then maybe EQ isn't for you.

![]() Whatever anyone else says, surely one of the best moments on P99 is day 1 when you realize everything is as you remember it from 17 years ago and you want to talk to others or say something in ooc or shout (more than what you'd put in an eBay feedback comment).

![]() On the flipside, you can roleplay an ogre really well with those restrictions.
