Default Blacksmithing - Buffs?

A few questions as I build up my blacksmithing...

1) Is it worth me getting a Charisma buff to improve my purchase/sellback ratio? Or is the price difference immaterial?

2) Will I have a better chance at skill-up with a Strength buff (as a Warrior) or any other stat buff?

3) Is there anything that will increase my success chance other than raw blacksmithing skill level?

4) Is my blacksmithing level limited to my current level (5 x level + 5), similar to other skills?

Thanks!

Can try it and see. May help a good bit when you get to fine plate.

Yes definitely get a STR buff.

No.

I did all mine at high level, but I'm pretty certain all the general trades have no level cap.
Class trades are definitely level capped. Keep the only one trade skill 200+ rule in mind.

You can get any non-class based (like alchemy/poison making) up to cap on a low level character, and they are not capped per level. My rogue hit 248 brewing at 20.

Cecily got all the questions. For 4, the answer is no, blacksmithing is not level capped. I have a lvl 12 with a smithing skill of 140. Non-class/race-specific skills do not have level caps. You can only raise 1 above 200 (not sure if that's for only generic tradeskills or also includes the specialized ones).

For other tradeskills (if anyone is curious):
Poison-making capped at 0 until 20, when cap is lifted (no level cap after that)
Alchemy is capped at 0 until 25, and after that is severely level capped (I think you can only get to 5 at 25).
Tinkering is capped at 50 til 16 (gnomes start out at 50), when cap is lifted (no level cap after that)
Research is capped at 0 until 16, and after that is level capped (so the spells you need for your level are juuuuust out of reach of your current skill)

It'd be awesome if your speed of skilling up brewing was improved by being more drunk in game.

yes, unfortunatelly it's the contrary... int is used... would be cool if it worked reversed, the lower your int, the more chance to skillup on failures...

Ah, the art of drunken smithing...an ancient tradition kept alive in the snowy barbarian stronghold of Halas, where 80% of the population is buzzed before noon and the remaining 20% is outright plastered.

poison making isn't level capped? I thought it was (and was waiting till 50 to try and cap it)... did you confirm this on your rogue? That really changes things if so [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Probably not worth it. It will cost you less than 500p to get from 0 to 175. After that point, your money / time will be spent acquiring Leather Padding from other players. If I recall correctly, the amount of money I had actually went up by the time I hit 235 from making Fine Plate buying what supplies were needed from the vendors. With 212 STR, it took about 40 stacks of leather padding to go from 175 - 235 making Fine Plate. If you buy this from players that is about 8k if you buy it in EC. The rest of the stuff sells back above cost (minus a few failures).

Do what you can to get your STR or INT or WIS up to 200. After that point, it seems the % to skill up starts dropping (according to EQ Traders) http://www.eqtraders.com/calculators...r=130000000000

Increase your STR and choose recipes that are 20 - 30 points above your current skill level. Your chance of a skill increase is 2x as good when you're successful vs when you're unsuccessful.

Nope! I have several very low characters with above 200 in a trade skill.

Good luck!
