Default Starting Gear

HI Guys,

2 Friends and myself decided to start on the server this weekend and relive some memories.

However when we played live we lucked into a guild that gave us new gear etc that really helped as well as powerleveling etc.

Now we are "doing it for our selves" is there a good way to get geared at lower levels other than hoping for the kindness of others?

Obviously we can get drops as we level but are there any quests we are missing that are essential?

We are a Barb war and shaman and a gnome wizzard

TIA

Poc

There weren't many classic armor quests for newbs.... the game is called Everquest but it's an open world with non-linear progression where not every NPC is standing around looking to give the weakest characters an opportunity to earn some loot....

there are several ways to acquire several hundred plat as a newb without resorting to charity...Farm tradeskill dropables and sell them in EC (high quality bear pelts, spider silk, and bone chips); loot weapons off of guards slain by higher level characters; level in greater faydark and sell all crushbone belts and lego pads to other players.....

then once you have a couple hundred plat buy decent weapons from EC for the warrior for like 25-50pp each (duel wield is lvl 13) and get blacksmithing high enough to eek out two sets of banded for the war and sham (just keep leveling by making the thing that's closest to trivial and once it starts getting expensive past banded mask just try forcing success for each piece until you have two sets)...maybe buy bronze off merchants near a zone where the medium or large size drops for the warrior....

in the teens you guys can do the Testament of Vanear quest for the shaman for a +10wis secondary item....

That testament is really all I can think of that's worth doing before you hit the 20s...

Barb starting city is widely regarded as one of the worst places to start. War can get out immediately and train elsewhere. Shaman is a little more trouble since you have to get spells every few levels.

Easiest, classic ways to make money: sell crushbone belts/pads or bone chips.

You will find very cheap gear all over the place you just have to keep your eyes open. Lots of times people will just hand you low level items if you are brand new.

Warrior and shaman can both tank the mob once it's slowed. Just root it, and be ready to taunt/reroot as the wizard nukes. You guys will be fine.

The general consensus is focus on exp, as gear/money will be easier to get at higher levels. There aren't a lot of essential quests you should be looking for. If you're still in the Qeynos area I'd do bandits in WK and fill your bags with sashes. Each one with get you exp and bronze weapons at the Paladin guild. That is solid exp/money for your group.

Also you should convince the wizard to play an enchanter, warrior , shaman + enchanter is so much more solid, your group will function so much better with enc CC + DPS + Mana Regen once you get past the teens, you may think of shaman and enchanter being silghtly redundant since both can slow and haste but the extra magic resistance debuff and lower level charisma buff shaman provides enchanter as well as the mana regen the enchanter gives the shaman help the shaman heal better and the enchanter hold charm for dps more consistently

There are rabid animals in Qeynos Hills that can you kill for good xp AND money. There are two wolves up at all times and one grizzly and they always drop a rabid pelt. Other than that there is the gnoll fang quest which you can turn in for big chunks of xp in Qeynos or money in Halas.

Rabid wolves+grizzlies - gnoll fangs - lightstones and great lightstones - bandit sashes. They'll help you get xp and more than enough plat for basic gear and spells [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

edit - if the wizard can be convinced to reroll, a bard/ench/monk would be a great third. I personally would suggest the bard if you're shit out of luck for gear, but that's me.

Like Fugari said, Qeynos area has tons of great exp and money spots for low levels. I'd skidaddle out of Everfrost and head to either Qeynos or (yawn) Gfay, as these two spots are easily the best (non-iksar) starter zones. Gfay will make it a true pain for your Shaman, though, so I strongly recommend Qeynos and its surrounding area.

My ranger had slightly over 700p by 19 thanks to Rabid wolves/grizzlies, wisps and bandit sashes. Plenty of cash to get you guys started with, even splitting it three ways.

Kurn's Tower is good.

Iksar berserker club best weapon you will find at this level (other than purchasing something, which is probably the wise way to go).

Lots of leather/chain type armour drops. Some of the leather even has stats (but no magic).

Playing EQ gearing yourself up with a group of friends is really fun, especially if you avoid buying anything.... not saying that said saving up your cash and buying twinkage / accepting hand outs isn't also fun though.

Let wizard play what he wants. He can always CC by spamming staff of temperate flux (questable at fairly low level) and running it round in circles/off rooting. Having a mobility guy/exit strategy is quite handy for fixed groups. I think Jimjam started in a fixed group with an enchanter and a druid, which was really good fun.

It will suck for the shaman but I would go to gfay to level and sell crushbone belts / pads. Then when you hit about 12 go kill the bandit sisters in lfay. Take turns turning in all 4 necklaces and have the guy turning in the necklace also offload any bronze weapons you got then at the end of the day split the plat.

The shaman can buy some spells near gfay. Felwithe should let them buy any spell they share with another class which is a few at lower levels. The poison dots the gnome can buy in akanon for the shaman as well.

I would also suggest considering leveling as a class you may not be psyched about like nec druid or enc then just buying the warrior and shaman into twinked

at 14 run to steam font /who all dial /t dial druid can I get a port from steamfont to nk. explain you are new and tip what can afford. then run to halas and buy spells up to what ever level you can. While the shaman is doing that have the same druid drop the warrior off in wc then run over to ec and try to buy the warrior two okish weapons. Then level up smithing high enough to make medium banded in the free port area then spend what ever is left on upgrading the wizards armor.

You can do crafted and totemic armor around level 30 pretty easily as well I think. Not all pieces are worth it. Go group in places that give ok plat like sol A or hhp/hhk and then buy some upgrades.

Leveling up is also going to earn you more cash as well. I was constantly poor until 54 now if I farm with my static duo every sunday we can usually afford to buy a few upgrades / save up for some stupid expensive spell.

Might be hard to start at level 1 together with the gnome and barbs being on the opposite side of starting near each other. It would be easier for the gnome to go to Qeynos instead of a shaman going to gfay for getting spells when leveling up.

A brave level 1 gnome might beg a port to NK or even an evac to WK from a wizard or druid. Hope for a sow and an invs and run to qeynos. Should be able to find a bind or tell the wizard/druid your plan and they might help you.

or

Level 1 gnome runs from Ak'knon to Butcherblock, takes the boat to Timorous Deep. Swim to the pots room, pot to Qeynos, look for a bind. Try to get an Invs and run through Blackborrow and join the Barbarians in Everfrots.

south karana 18-29
