Was getting a metal pipe MQ last night for my robe of whistling fist/epic. The damn turn in mob needs to be charmed so that its indifferent for the turn in. Pipe hand in goes ok but literally at the same time, or I guess it must have been a nano second before I turn in my robe of lost circle, charm breaks and I lose my robe and pipes go bye bye. I've petitioned but I read the policy on MQing, anyone have a similar experience with good results from a petition? Or am I just shit out of luck and should head to Lguk for the long camp again =/

There's no help for MQ's going bad, but you would have been fine if you had sneak on and behind the mob when the charm broke. Next time if you have someone charm, try to find a shaman to debuff it as well. Tash + Malo line should give you a good amount of time to do the turn in and prevent a very early break like that.

It wouldn't have been fine if you had sneak on because once the charm broke the mob would be in combat and would eat the pipes because in combat.

The intent of the quest was honestly for Brother Balatin to be non-KoS. But most monks bypassed this by using Sneak. However with MQs and lots of classes not being able to sneak it turned into charming which has risks as you unfortunately found out.

Yeah that's right would have ate it anyway. Another thing to try that is safer is calm + invis turn in but unless you are both there when he spawns he can despawn on. Regardless, kite + charm is the easiest way to do it but it's a very common for something to go wrong with this quest because of the poor design and most monks don't have all 3 items on them to simply sneak turn in.

Edit: It's been a long time sense I did this quest, but assuming he was tashed, and a 50+ ench was charming, alla lists him as a level 30-33 mob, the chances of a very early charm break should be minimal. I understand like root, early charm breaks do happen because RNG so maybe you were just very unlucky.

I've done several turn ins while the npc was fighting.

I MQ'd some JBoots and the guy attacked Hasten instead of hailing him. I've also done the muffins for Pandos quest while he was attacking the bard. You can't initiate a trade while he's fighting, but if you have the window open before, you can still hit GIVE just fine.

I haven't heard from GMs yet but I'm not expecting good news. Big thanks to Taxoti (I think that was his name) in Asgard and Shaunsomething. They waited a couple hours through many PHs and we're definitely bummed by the situation too but of course paid them after as they lost their pipes.

I did this turn in with sneak and no charm several times, back In the day anyway.
