![]() I'm returning to EQ after a year hiatus. Lost my old account so I'll be starting from scratch. I've played off an on since for a long time but always as a tank. This time I was thinking to roll a caster at first; with the thought of twinking a SK, warrior, or a Monk once I've amassed enough pp. However, I'm torn between choosing a Mage or a Necro. Both seem to do well ungeared, and they both seem to be able to solo/farm. I'm not really experienced farming anything solo; as I was always grouping. Also never made it past level 49 on p99.
So my question is, how would you approach EQ from scratch, if you were me? Furthermore, I hear velious is out now, and am wondering how this affected the market for melee equipment.

![]() If you're seriously planning to roll a caster/plat toon, I'd go with a druid for porting as it's stupid easy money once you can start porting others. Also not very gear dependent unless you're trying to set up for quadding in your mid 30's (even then, not bad).
At 44 you'll have all the ports available and could stop right there.

![]() So. Dial-a-port for the win eh? I suppose that would work. I appreciate the input!

![]() i think making any toon just to farm plat to twink out another is idiotic and a waste of time
just pick the class you wanna play and level, youll get gear on the way. By the time your caster gets high level to farm plat/items, you could of had the melee class all set. i'd go to ec tunnel on your toon and ask for help from people in shout. Say you're brand and new and any starting items would help. Once you get a decent weapon, someone will give you a 10/25 or so, collect assorted armor slots and youll be fine. youre over thinking it

![]() I am with fan D. Play what you want. Rolling a druid to only farm for plat first is both an insult to a great class and a huge waste of time if you want to have fun playing the game like it should be played.

![]() My first character was a Halfling warrior. No twinking, mediocre gear but could solo every level on the way to the 50s. Early 50s was soloing bats in SolB with a ~20% haste and rampage proc 2hs.
I've since fresh started several warriors, and have never had the problems some on the forums suggest would be faced. An effective thing is to start by killing decaying skeletons (North Ro Inns is my favourite spot) for a few levels. You'll quickly get a rusty weapon that will 1 hit kill these mobs and by the time you are finished with them you will have enough money just from cloth/rusty/bags to buy a decent weapon (green jade broadsword), plus a backpack full of bone chips which you can sell to fund a set of banded armour, maybe even hp/ac rings. Alternatively save the bone chips to hand in after a few more levels in kaladim.
