Default Word of Pain Glitch?

I got a bit of a mystery going on with my level 12 cleric. I could definitely use some insight because I feel like it's just me overlooking something incredibly obvious. Help prove that I'm an idiot please? :}

Whenever I cast Word of Pain, sometimes it will cast (complete animation) and use up mana, but not actually do any damage to the mob. It's not an interrupt and there's nothing special or different about the mobs I'm casting it on (just orcses in Crush). I don't think it's a resist, because I'm not getting a message for it. In fact, I'm not getting -any- message for it beyond the cast message. I checked my chat settings and all spell messages are going to one window so I don't think I'm missing out on anything.

Thanks in advance!

Word of Pain is a point-blank AOE spell. Means it damages all baddies in a small circle centered on your character.

In order for it to work, you have to be pretty close to the mob--almost melee range.

Aw, jeeze. Was thinking it was the follow up to Furor. I swear I checked it on the wiki three or four times, but I guess I just glazed over the second part of the description. Idiocy confirmed.

Thanks so much, Mae.

Purple gem means it is an explosion based around the caster [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].

Most UIs show a background color on each spell gem which indicates the target type:

Red - Single Target
Yellow - Self Only
Green - Targeted AOE (usually these are limited to 4 "hits" around and including your target)
Blue - Point Blank AOE (spell takes effect around the caster and anything in the blast radius gets hit. This can hit 100s of mobs at once)
Purple - Entire Group
Orange - Targeted AOE Rain (These function just like a Targeted AE, hitting 4 total times however it's spread out into waves every 2 seconds. So you can hit a stationary mob with 3 waves, or you can hit 4 stationary mobs with 1 wave each).

I'm currently using DuxaUI and it does indeed have the colored spell backgrounds. I've never actually paid much attention to them though, I always knew they were colored for a reason, but never really registered it enough to use it myself. Prooobably because I always mained either a warrior or necro.

Thanks a ton guys. This is why I love EQ - always something new to feel dumb over [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
