looting while feign death

So I was trying to split north key boss room in HS and fd'd after a bad lull resist.

somehow I accidently clicked a corpse of a mob that was nearby me but not directly on my screen or in view and it looted the corpse and stood me up out of FD proceeding to re-aggro the entire north room and get me murked.

My question is, should a player be able to loot a corpse in FD or should they have to stand up first? This is the first time I've ever run into this situation so I'm just not sure but it sure was inconvenient. Wondering if anybody can shed light on this and knows whether it is classic or not to be able to loot something from FD or if they have to stand up first to loot a corpse.
