![]() Hey all!
I have been casually playing P99 for a year now, and have levelled a druid to level 20, as well as tried a few alts here and there. It has been great to relive some of my fondest memories with the game. This was one of the first games my brothers and i played together, and obsessed over, growing up. The fact that the staff provide this for free, and continuously update things is so incredibly generous, so thank you for that, and keep up the great work! My question is, and i apologize if this has been posted before, but i have heard that there are small differences between the Red server and Blue server beyond the obvious PvP(like experience rate, etc) Is there any documentation regarding these differences anywhere or has it just been posted about in pieces over the years? What i am trying to decide is if the bonus in experience or difference in hybrid penalties is worth the PvP fear? I tend to solo more because of my play schedule, so the server counts don't really bother me, but was curious of differences in systems between the two servers. Thanks very much for the help, and maybe i will see you in game! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Totelp - 20 Halfling Druid (Blue) DeepDoop -5 Iksar Monk (Blue)

![]() You'll need a thick skin and a sense of humor to enjoy red. If you've got those, and the ability to not ragequit when you were killed while killing a mob you'll enjoy it [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
It's definitely a tough learning curve and you'll encounter people with years of EQ pvp experience but after you scratch the surface with some of the other players you'll find that some of them aren't as good as you first thought and you'll be able to pick up a few kills [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] The most important thing if you try it though is not to take the mentality of "I won't engage in pvp unless someone attacks me first" which a lot of new players do. The best way to get better is to practice. If you can get a character to level 10 on red I'll make you up some jewelcrafted items at cost price. HP rings, resist gear, stat gear... whatever you like. Just pay me the cost of the metal bar and the gem [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

![]() If you are the type to kick you dog and beat your wife, it will double or triple playing Red. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
If you are sort of laid back, well then why bother, because you will get kicked and beaten on Red. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

![]() Red:
Global OOC Exp bonus:50% to solo exp and +40% for each member of a group. So solo you get +50% exp, with a duo you get +90% exp, with a full group you get +290% exp. (Please correct me if this is wrong, but I am pretty sure it's correct) I'm sure there are other things, but I am not a red expert. I have two low lvl chars on red, both under 20. I have 7 characters on blue (53,52,45, rest below 25) and both servers are good, I just vastly prefer PvE to PvP. Red gets a lot of shit from Blue for having an awful player base and community but that has not been my experience on it. With both characters I announced in /ooc that I was new to PvP and both times someone traveled to me without me asking and gave me VT to sell so I could buy my spells. I'm sure there are terrible people that play on that server that do nasty things, but..well, you've playd on Blue for a year so you know that it can be the same way. Give red a try, what do you have to lose?

![]() Everyone wants to play red when the pop hits 1000, but the paradox is that everyone is waiting for everyone else to go first.
Try both servers, and do try pvp'ing - its quite fun once you get into it.

![]() The main differences are the xp bonus, global OOC, and pvp. The other differences mostly relate to things specific to pvp (for example, you cannot charm a player the way you can charm a mob). Oh, and the population difference. The population difference is really what drew me to red. There are many guides out there on leveling, money camps, items to camp, etc., but most of them aren't really usable on blue, because all of those camps are already taken.
If you see a guide that says to hunt Nybrights in Lfay, sisters in OOT, how to spawn the sarnak courier, etc., you can actually DO those things on red. On blue the spot is already camped, at least in my experience. I happen to enjoy pvp, but I might have made the switch anyway, just to be able to relive content. On blue, I walked a level 15 shaman through KC and collected my Jarsath pieces with almost no risk of death, because the mobs were all down. It's a very different experience even in pve between the two servers. But that's just my opinion, try them both and see what you like better.

![]() Blue has multiple guilds fighting for raid mobs with no real way to contest.
Red has one guild getting raid mobs with a real way to contest. Shit is so ass backwards it doesn't even make sense to me. Especially when people on red claim to be there for PvP. Either server you choose will be an uphill battle for loot if you choose to not join the winning side. The only difference between the two servers is the drive for competition is stronger on blue so things are more likely to change (top guild being overthrown.) edit because work and bored. So I don't sound like I am advocating blue over red. Red is the superior server as far as rule set. The problem is the player base. At the end of the day, I'd still play Red over Blue if I were you.

![]() All good information so far.
Pipip is spot on about things you can actually DO on red vs blue though. I've only gotten to 42 (and another to 35) so far but it's nice being able to say "I'd like to go do X" and actually be able to go do it. The only time I've come across PKs so far are pretty much in Unrest/MM. I've not gone to CB yet but they seem to be common there too. Not a big deal to handle though if you're in a group. Tons of toxic OOC banter but it's easy enough to ignore that. Plenty of players on red that have been great to group with, chat with, help out.
