![]() Hi all,
I'm considering giving P99 another shot. At the same time, I found it difficult when starting out... I died almost instantly, and moving around the map was very difficult. Additionally, I didn't really find anyone who was too keen on helping me out. Can someone share their thoughts? I just want to make sure that I understand everything before reinstalling EQ, I really like the social aspect and group play, but everything seemed frustrating.

![]() You have to breakdown the phase of "Starting Out."
You have "Starting Out" as a brand-new-spanking-Newbie who doesn't have a pot to piss in or you have "Starting Out" who is an Alt-Of-Level-50-Or-Higher-Player and is beyond twinked at level 1. You sound like the first choice so I suggest just staying in the newbie zone around your starting area until you learn more about the area. Kill everything that moves, within reason and loot, sell and save to make money.

![]() Just about everyone gets lost and dies within the first hour of their first attempt at EQ classic. It's a rough learning curve and there are a lot of things to find frustrating just because it's not very easy. The newbie zones (areas with things like bats, fire beetles, decaying skeletons, etc) and your starting city are usually pretty safe to learn how to play in.
You will find the helpful people if you're patient, just like with everything else on this game.

![]() Starting out can be one of the most difficult times in EQ, but it can be the most rewarding too. Some of my best memories of EQ are just trying to survive, and finding a decent place to get xp, and making new friends. It's these frustrations and difficulties that force this game to be a very social and group focused game. Don't give up, if you get past the beginning frustrations, you will cherish those memories later.

![]() Try to target decaying skeletons as much as possible. A stack (20) bone chips can can earn you up to 10 pp per stack by selling them to other players (do not vendor these).

![]() Accept that you're going to die... A LOT. Every mistake is a lesson.
Accept that you will get lost... A LOT. Every mistake is a lesson. Don't expect immediate gratification. Aim for a slow burn with a lot of work input. Stop. Smell the flowers. If it's been a week and you're not even level 10 yet, consider it a win. I've generally seen people being very helpful.

![]() Getting the files installed is the hardest part.
After that it's simply a case of logging on, creating a character and finding exciting ways to die and lose your things!

![]() Starting in P99 without any type of gear to get started is very difficult. This is why the game is so keen on grouping. You will see folks that twink out their new characters with some awesome equipment and that don't want anything to do with people who aren't geared or remotely geared to the level that they are. But you will also come across folks that are willing to help you along the way, whether it be through buffing or even shelling out 1-50pp to help with your cause. Its all really in how you fit in the community

![]() Check the wiki and read the write ups in the guide section if you haven't already done so. Don't be afraid to rely on maps. ZEM is your friend.
