Default NPC Resist Values

Hi All -

I was doing some researching into mob resist values and really can't seem to find anything, besides the fact that any resist value (i.e. SvFire) is going to be somewhere between 0 and 500.

All I've found on this forum is this post by Aeolwind:

Quote:
Probably the toughest thing to get correct is resist values. No hard data for this exists anywhere, other than a few scant documents that reveal immunities, actual resist levels are impossible to find. Most every mob had the same resists when we started, about 700 mobs had to be made and several thousand more have been modified.
Does anyone have any general guidelines for mob resist rates? Like, most mobs around level X generally have resist rates ranging from Y to Z? I know some mobs have ridiculous resistance (like the clockworks in Sol A), but I'm just trying to pin down a ballpark range for a given level.

Thanks!

I definitely think there's some variance in the tables, but overall I wonder if they are too high. I don't remember resists being so common back in the day.
Some of the worst for me have been gargoyles, the jack-o-lanterns and the bards.

Camping Travis Two Tone recently ( he's lvl 25) I'm 27,
I open with root, he resists it, and also the next 2 roots I cast. I get one to stick and back up 10 yds to DoT. The root doesn't even hold long enough to complete the Affliction cast. It held maybe 5 seconds.
Re-root, back up.... cast Envenomed Breath....resisted.
re cast,.....resisted.
I cast Affliction again, it sticks, but breaks root.
Re root, re try Envenomed Breath again. it sticks.

Back up, try a Frost strike. it hits for 61 of a max 143 dmg.

For you folks counting at home, that's:
3 root resists,
2 very short duration roots (only one broken by dmg)
2 Envenomed Breath resists
2 Affliction resists
and one nuke partial resist.

Now granted, that one stands out because I got more resists than usual, but starting at about lvl 15, I'd say my average resist rate is around 15-18% starting with OOT sirens, then OOT aviaks, oasis crocs & orcs, then gargoyles, and then Cordelia Minster/Travis.

I was in one Perma group, i didn't even bother to slow mobs that were yellow or red. the success rate on that spell was maybe 20% over the course of the 20-odd mobs I tried before giving up. I just switched to healing rather than burn a ton of mana on resists.

Those are just my observations on this shaman.
My necro isn't much different. Only the 'Blood' line seems to stick reliably. Heart flutter actually got taken off my bar after light blue crocs would regularly resist it.

They seem too high at the moment. Shaman Slow, Root, Poison Dots etc are especially noticeable for me.

It's true. I can solo reds very easily (almost one after the other) on my necro if I stick to darkness/blood line/leach line. However, if I start trying to stick heart flutter/poison/disease, I start getting resists all over the place.

Even fear lands pretty reliably on reds...But i've also noticed the RNG system tends to "stick" - if I get one resist on darkness/poison/heart flutter, I almost always get the same spell resisted again and again and again.

At one point I had 5 straight darkness resists on a mob I had been soloing for three levels effectively (Baobob Miller) and who rarely resisted darkness at all.

This was always the case for necro spells on various mobs. It was one of the reasons Splurt was so damn good when you get it, because it is almost never resisted by anything, ever. Poison/disease gets resisted a bunch.

Also, semi-on topic, I've been nuked repeatedly for full damage by green con mobs. It's pretty frustrating to get straight up denied on dotting a low dark-blue, but then get your face melted by a green-con 10 lvls below you.

thanks quell - I think I ran by you on my DE Chanter a couple times yesterday when an orc would send me back to my bind point [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I also experienced the same issues when I was in my lower/early mid levels on my shaman. I thought root was totally worthless. It really improves at later levels though...to the point that I had totally forgotten about my lower level resist woes.

Anyway, I'm still trying to pin down more specific values of the resist levels.
One thing I do know is that the Tash line of enchanter spells deducts 13, 23, 33, and 43 MR and are given at levels 4, 20, 44, and 57 respectively. If each of these spells was designed to take, say, 10% of a mob's MR, that would mean the values would break down as:

-Low Level Mobs (1-15): 130ish SvMagic
-Lower-Mid Level Mobs (16-30): 230ish SvMagic
-Upper-Mid Level Mobs (31-45): 330ish SvMagic
-High Level Mobs (46-60): 430ish SvMagic

Of course, that 10% number as well as the level ranges are completely taken out of nowhere. But does anyone know what sort of resist ranges (specifically Magic Resist) to expect from a mob in a given level range?

I think 10-15% resist debuff sounds appropriate.
I understand that the SHM/MAG Malise line debuffs 20 and 40 of each CR/FR/PR/MR at their respective 24 and 44 levels.

I wonder if some PvP testing would yield any consistencies? Buff a lvl 50 to say, 400MR and nuke him a bit to get a feel for the resist rates

Pretty sure there was already a thread about this, and the best guess was something to the effect of the max resist being 500 when it should be 255 or something like that...?
