Best first character is one that can farm things for your second. I learned this the hard way.

wizard or druid are great first toons as well. potent in pvp and mobile.

A lot of people are tempted by a knight class but honestly, SKs particularly... the gear is overpriced because there's high demand.

Druid is a good starter because its well rounded enough to allow you to make mistakes. You'll need some wis gear though before your mana pool is good enough to really take down some people with mana to spare.

plus with druid you can forage delicious meats, vegetables, embryos and seafoods!
