Well few things, still deciding if i should play this or the original servers as starting on the 1999, I have no idea where to go or what to do. The original is more simple for a newcomer, but I'm afraid the original isn't that populated like this server.

You're misunderstanding things - there are no "original servers as starting on the 1999", just P99 Blue (Player versus Environment) or P99 Red (Player vs Player). P99 is kind of like a progression server that has moved to the first Ruins of Kunark expansion and is on the cusp of moving to the second Scars of Velious expansion. Just dive onto either server depending on your PVP taste and enjoy!

Regards,
Mg

I think the OP means "original" as in the Live servers. The current Live servers and P1999 are two completely different paradigms.

P1999 is very old school in that it is very challenging, without many of the modern conveniences of modern MMOs, and has a need for strong player interdependence.

The Live servers are in the tradition of most modern MMOs: immediate gratification, and hand holding.

My bias is reflected in the descriptions above. Unfortunately, there is a real lack of a happy medium between the old school and the modern. If a MMO took the challenge, zone design, competition, and player interdependence of P99 and mixed with modern MMO crafting, housing, social functions, mounts, but left the foundations old school with a veneer of modern chrome on the surface, I would be extremely happy.

Hell, I'm playing a 16 year old MMO - so obviously am already happy.

P99, which for all intents and purposes is old school EQ, doesn't hold your hand. The learning curve is very steep and you are plunged straight into the deep end.

Start wth the Wiki, play the game, come back to the Wiki, rage quit, come back, re-read the Wiki, play the game. Learn the basics first, stick to the newbie area, and start from there. I cannot emphasis how important it is to know /loc command and how to navigate with Wiki Maps. In time, you won't even need the maps - you'll be able to get around by /loc alone.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Be specific and people are usually eager to help and answer any questions. One piece of advice: EQ is old school hard. You will get your ass handed to you again, and again, and again when first starting out. Yes, there are CRs; exp loss (eventually), and agro mobs straight off the bat.

It really is a question of which paradigm you prefer.

What is your character name? Feel free to contact Ellinadi in game if you need any help when you get in.

There is no objective. Quests are mainly side things to do. At no point do you need to complete any quests or do anything other than kill enemies.

As a short list of personal objectives, each character I play tries to get a set of bags first and foremost. After that, if I'm a caster, I save for spells at level 4/5 and maybe I buy a spell or two at level 1 to make the first few levels more interesting and easier. If I'm not a caster, I start outfitting my character in basic armor like cloth and leather. You may find a better weapon off of a skeleton, but maybe not.

There's not really a right or wrong way to play the game. Just have adventures. Do not look at this game like it is an MMO. Look at it like it's a different type of Elderscrolls game and you'll have a blast.
