Default Letter from Iwo Jima

Never forget people. Posting this in honor of all that have served. This is a copy of a letter received from my grandfather my grandmother typed. He was a Marine that survived Iwo Jima.

Interesting letter. Thanks for sharing. I clicked on this thread thinking it would be about the movie by a similar title.

Here are pics of him and a few of his fellow marines. He is on left and top left. Post battle I'm assuming - never got the story of the pics.

Per my father, "....Dad never wanted to talk about his Iwo Jima experiences. As a boy growing up, dad hunted and killed things to help feed his family. After the war he never picked another gun except to shoot tin cans. He told us he'd seen enough killing. The comments in his letter explains what he saw that changed him...."

Wow those are great photos. Side note ... notice how a majority of people smoked back then (especially in the service)?
