Default Another returning

I am returning from an on again off again relationship with EQ lol. I played live pretty hardcore from velious to Dragons but I didnt really like where the game was heading only returning for a month or so at a time when i needed the nostalga. I played on the Mac server for awhile and loved it since Luclin and the beastlord was my fav exp/class. but now that is no longer an option [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Although P99 is missing some of my favorite EQ content I think I will enjoy playing on this server.
Aside from beastlord, the rogue is my favorite class. I have made a barb rogue on blue (name: Mycota) that I plan to use as my main. However I am worried I will have a hard time since I wont be able to twink and probably wont be highly desired in groups. My playtime is limited to just an hour or two a day if that. Any suggestions or tips for someone starting fresh? Is attempting a rogue untwinked even worth it or would I be better off with a druid or something im not as keen on playing to farm plat to twink the rogue?

Rogues are great Mycota... you'll have to take the odd jibe that you don't have your epic at level 1 but they're great dps without an epic too. I didn't get mine til 52-53 and quested it myself... which I'd highly recommend. Far more rewarding to quest your own stuff [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

You could go druid first, there's a ton of druids around on the server so it's definitely a trend, but personally I'd try and pick up some cheap items in EC when you're able.

General tips: Put your highest DMG weapon in your main hand, and when you can dual wield you want a good ratio weapon in your offhand (jade mace 9/18 etc rather than a 12/34 wep).

That'll all come in time, for now just focus on getting your backstab and climbing the level ladder. Plenty of good people here to throw any rogue questions at, and you might find some good advice either on the wiki or in the class section at the base of the page.

Thanks for your response Swish. I will probably see if I can tough it out on the rogue.

Ive done the rogue epic before so I wouldnt mind getting a MQ but at 30k I feel like I can do it myself again. It is an easy one and kind of fun [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Completely forgot about the high dmg weap in MH and good ratio in offhand. Definately have some reading up to do. Probably been over a year since I logged into EQ.

Thanks for everything. This server really looks like what ive been longing for. The thing that really killed live for me was the excessive boxing which I feel lead to a loss in community.

I say tough it out. The gear upgrades feel very rewarding on a melee main b/c they have an impact. There are decent weapons that are pretty cheap as well.

I also say do your own epic, its not hard and it just feels like something you should do on your main.

To this day one of my most excited moments on this server was completing my burning rapier quest on my rogue (my main) at level 30. This was of course pre-kunark and likely wont be your experience, but I use it to highlight the victories on the journy and why the gear struggle on a melee is actually a source of fun.

I would further defend this position by arguing that playing a group dependant class will in the end make you love the game more. You will meet people and make friends and have partners on the journy and thats what really makes this game.

These guys make good points for rog.

But if you only have an hour or two a day max then you might want to go with a class that can solo if you can't find a group. Like ench/shm.

It is very frustrating to sit down looking forward to some exp only to be LFG for the whole time you have set out to play.

Could you provide more info on this? I always thought that best ratio weapon should be in main hand.

supa, I agree. although the reward is what we are after the fun is on the journey obtaining it. It cheapens it when you just MQ something like your "Epic Quest"

curtis, I do have a lvl 8 druid on the server. I will probably play that toon when I cant find a group.

voland, best ratio in offhand because you want your slow high damage weapon in MH for heavy backstabs. At least thats what I recall from when I played live.

Sure Voland.

Keeping it as brief as possible....

Backstab damage is based on the damage of your weapon, so if you have a 9/18 or 12/24 in your main hand rather than a 14/25 then you'll notice your dps drop overall if you parse it.

A good ratio offhand also maximizes dps... whether it's a 9/18 jade mace, a 12/24 crystalline short sword or the high end Edge of the Nightwalker 14/25.

If you're buying a decent main hand (pre-epic) a good one to go for is the Rapier of Oriin ...which still isn't cheap but has dropped in value since I had mine.

Swish,

How does one "parse" to obtain DPS? When I played WoW I had downloaded a DPS meter add on. Is there anything like that in EQ?

There is 3rd party sortware (that is legal) that reads the eq log file and calculated your DPS.
