![]() Have been looking at the guide book and reading this forum.
I know everyone says play what you like...but I am torn and like several different classes and can't decide. My top priority is to be able to find groups. I am not a huge fan of pulling though, as I tend to get turned around easily. Also, have more hours logged on cleric than any other class, so don't want to play another one. I am interested in Druid, Enchanter, Shaman, or maybe even Warrior. I understand Warrior can be tough to play if you don't have any gear or money though. Also, the hardest thing I am finding about the game is getting a bind....so I'm leery of warrior for that reason too. Also, in the book it seemed like Druids aren't as group friendly? I was surprised to hear that. Thanks much for any advice. Enjoying the old school experience, but because xp is so slow, want to make a good class choice [You must be logged in to view images. ![]() I started a druid, having never played one in old EQ. I love the utility of the class, but there's Druids everywhere, so just know that you'll be in a big school of fish. That said, there's a spell for everything and I never get bored playing around with my utility belt of spells.
Since you're not a fan of pulling, an Enchanter seems like it could indirectly suffer from that. Enchanter's need to be aware of what's going on for every pull pretty much since they need to mez adds. Shaman's are fun as hell and people will love you for buffing and sowing them. They also get some NASTY dots and slows, making mobs seemingly Charmin-soft. This seems like it could be a good class for you.

![]() Enchanter will be most groupable class that can also bind yourself and still solo if you want. Shamans are also pretty groupable but have some awkward level ranges where they are crappy healers.
Druids are weak group class bc they are bad-mediocre healers or bad-mediocre group dps. They add some utility with root/snare but many classes can do this. Warriors are key raid tanks, but can be frustrating in groups where you have fairly little control over aggro. Shadow knights and paladins are smoother group tanks.

I started on P99 as a cleric, got lost a lot...died a few times taking wrong turns when a train was about to roll in (Lower Guk, Sol B, etc) or the group was wiping with no mana left to give. Once I'd made a SK I really began to learn those zones I struggled in. I've even pulled in Plane of Hate (a zone I used to find REALLY mazey) for a raid and did a decent job of clearing. If I could go back and say anything to my day 1 P99 self it would be to play to my weaknesses... I got more out of my SK tanking/pulling than I ever did on my cleric. Play what you enjoy, but don't be afraid to learn something new - everyone's a new puller in an area once, and most people are patient or will show you some good cycles [You must be logged in to view images. ![]() I've been loving Paladin. Groups take me as a tank, flash of light, no problem holding aggro. Clutch lay on hands when pops start to overwhelm. It's great.
But the best part about Paladins is the soloability. With high STR and a beefy weapon, you are basically tank, cleric, and dps all in one. (Dps is not mind-blowing, however). Can't find a group? Go muck about Unrest or wherever you want. Things get hairy? Root n run, or lay hands and finish em off. Paladin is extremely fun once you scare up a bit of plat. The only downside is the xp penalty.
