Hi, i am totally new to old eq i didn't start playing until around gates or further in.
i have no idea where to begin i haven't made a character yet. i am trying to figure out what are best or at least strong race/class combinations and since im just starting out new at lvl 1 could use some help with guild or whatever anything really. i am wanting to have fun with the game but know i need a way to make plat so i don't really know what classes are good for solo/farming/leveling as my first toon. what is needed what gets groups what lvls fastest or solos best. im normally into melee classes ive been known to play hybrid and support roles too. not much into healing its boring im more of a killer than a healer but i know how to if needed. so what im looking for is 1) ability to farm plat 2) solo well with good survival and leveling ability 3) desired in groups 4) melee dps or other/ hybrid types. 5) a guild and some friends to guide me around the world and group. thank you all in advanced sorry i am a noob lol and need any and all help and options and opinions that are beneficial to p99 life.

Id go ranger but for leveling your gonna NEED to get into groups for the xp plat wise you get to a certain lvl like lets say mammoths out in the everfrost you can farm plats fairly easy once you get the kiting tactics down.

With the exception of #5, the thing is in EQ Classic you can't have it all. So you need to decide what do you really want to do. Do you
1. Want to farm plat. And by this do you want to farm plat solo or in a group? 2. Solo well? 3. Be desired in groups? 4. Melee DPS or hybrid? In Classic EQ each class has it's strengths and weaknesses. For example, rangers are a hybrid, but are not the first choice group leaders seek when making a group. Necromancers solo well, but cannot farm plat nearly as well as a druid or wizard who can quad kite. Druids can solo (at higher levels), can make plat by porting, but aren't the first choice for grouping if a cleric is readily available. Enchanters are highly desired in groups, but don't solo well until mid-level (and even then a solo chanter is very challenging), and cannot farm plat as well as a druid or wizard.

Melee classes are not good at farming plat here, I'd go for something else as a first character. A bard does not melee, he mainly runs in circles on p99. Shaman would be ok, they can melee slightly better than a bard being a larger race and later on they can solo cash camps. But still, I managed to solo a few pp on my warrior between lv 15-25. But at higher levels that would probably not be possible.

Why not try monk? There are some places you can farm plats like gargs, paineel och rivervale guards and seafuries later on. You ownt be uber rich but you are wanted in groups and at higher lvls you'll get a chance of $$-drops for selling.
But if soloing and farming is your highest prio go nec or chanter and twink an melee alt when you get to 60 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I would say a Mage. Cost nothing to equip, and just buy Fire, Earth pets to start. I would definitely do a character with the ability to be able to bind. Dying 4 zones away that you have no clue about how to get back is not my idea of a good time. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
