Default Return to Everquest

Hi all,

Many years ago, after playing WoW for a while I thought "What the hell, let's give EQ a go".

OH MY GOD WHAT IS THIS?! The graphics were horrific, I did not understand anything! Why the hell did my fireball look like a huge pixel?!?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

After almost barfing I un-installed it and its been collecting dust ever since.

Many, many years later, after having matured and understood what hardcore games are (thanks a lot DOTA 2), I decided to give it another go after watching some videos on YouTube about Project 1999.

I am not going to lie, the grind is frustrating, but now I am mature enough to understand and enjoy it. It will take me some time to get used to the idea that there are no in-game maps, but that won't stop me! I just had my first grouping experience and it was great, you actually had to type LFG and find people, no automatic system that matches you with strangers who think you're a noob because you don't use the optimal skill rotation [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] The game is friggin' hard too, reminds me of Dark Souls, yay! I'll see if I can rope some friends into it!

So after that small ramble, I'll get to the point. I am currently playing as a Halfling Cleric at lvl 4. I only have a tunic, a sword, and a shield and I am presently at EC. Is there any other armour I should get? I understand that as a halfling I can't use a lot of stuff, but right now I feel like I am naked. Could you guys recommend something that I can use for several levels?

This is EXACTLY what happened to me! I played for about a week last year, got a few characters to level 7, and quit, having deemed the game as not my thing. After realizing I don't have a thing, I'm back and ready for action! Well... grinding. And dying. And being broke and gearless and a terrible tank.

Anyway, welcome to your new job!

I'm a level 11 shaman, eventually we could group up and get some dps and do something.

We welcome you into the light eNs! Glad to bar you've had a change of heart and decided to give the game a go. It is a blast. I would recommend making your way through Freeport and hop a boat to faydwer. Make your way to GFay, have someone bind you and start slaying orcs. Collecting Crushbone belts is a good source of income at low levels (players will pay 3pp per belt) and you can turn some in for xp and the bonus of some patchwork armor pieces. There are a few quests you can do for armor in BB that can be fun.

For gearing I would focus on hp/mana items. From about level 30-35 onward, wisdom items will generally start providing more mana than straight mana items. If you don't want the hassles of changing gear, you can just focus on wisdom outta the gate ^^

A Wraithbone Hammer is a decent low level 1hb that should make lower levels a bit easier. Melee will be helpful through your teens.

Don't wanna go into too much detail; Half the fun of EQ is discovery! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Good luck and have fun!

The best part of EQ is being broke, scared, and alone. You really want us to take that from you?

Lol, with a cleric, it gets very hard to level the farther you go. Holy trinity for the win, grab a tank buddy and enchanter and go to town. At higher levels you can duo with an enchanter charming things very well.

I played EQ live from when beta came out until around TSS or so. I remember towards the end having millions of plat, top end gear, and not having any fun. I can honestly say I'm having more fun than I did back then, and it's just like the first time around.

Welcome to the good times all over again. :-)

Thanks for all the encouraging messages everyone. Yesterday I reached lvl 5, died, dropped to 4, and got back to 5 again. I had forgotten about MMORPGs that did that :P
