Default What to make.

So me and my brother are trying to get back into EQ and were thinking about class's. right now he plays a dorf cleric, and I was thinking of making a shaman, and ogre seemed like the best.

How do you guys think us duo'ing would go? Should i consider something else since he is good and i would be evil? Is there a list of like the most needed class's exct? I tend to stay away from healers because i don't like the play style, shaman seemed to fix between both pretty nice - and I main'd shaman on live for years. soloability helps.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

there are no "needed" classes just play what you like

i like mage+cleric or necro+cleric

shaman duos well with just about anything, but they're more item dependent than pet classes are

As others have said, play what you like, the server population isn't going to affect you all that much if you have someone to play with most of the time.

That being said from an exp perspective on a cleric/shaman duo you are going to be hurting for dps probably well into the 20's. I find myself sitting on my arse a lot just waiting on mana because my offensive skills are garbage and my dots aren't that great. Cleric isn't going to help much in that department either, you could do undead camps to make this better but you're still relying on mana for dps on both classes. You probably have a fairly safe group with all the healing power available so there is that.

If you are thinking of having a good base for a group with the option to duo however, cleric/shaman duo is certainly a good group base and you can just duo until you find others for dps/tanking...

Anyhow as you can see plenty of options just depends on how you plan on playing, the main thing is to just pick what you will enjoy then the rest of it won't matter so much [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Play whatever you want to play. IMO every class but cleric, wizard, and druid would make a great duo partner for a cleric.

Normally I would go necro because of their soloability and all that, but do necro's get groups?

If i had to choose right now I would prefer necro or mage i think.

There's a ton of good duos out there. I recommend one of you being either druid, shaman, or bard so that you have access to a spell or song that increases your movement speed. Unfortunately, all 3 of these classes are lackluster in a duo with cleric. The duo I've been most eager to try lately is bard + sham. There's so much incredible synergy between these two classes. The shaman brings root (yay, bard doesn't have to run around in circles!), sow (in case selos misses a note), other buffs, heals, and dots (including eventually epic clicky). Bard brings resist buffs, snare, lull/mez, track (opens up new content, like TT and FM cycles), more dots, and mana song + breath of harmony clicky (hp regen and reduces canni dmg!!!) for practically limitless shm mana. Bard brings snare/fear or chain mez to deal with casters! On single targets you can even just slow, pull out the weapons, and go nuts. They're both very gear independent.

Lots of good points! I got time to decide as im waiting for them to unlock my IP since my bro and me play from the same house, so keep up the tips and pointers if anyone has them =D

Thanks again guys!

I can only speak from a new players vantage and a lone player up to mid levels.

Groups tend to make up of whatever is available and you will have some very nonstandard groups. Bard/monk/pet tanks, nero healers, etc. Real tanks seem to be the most scarce, then non-monk mêlée, followed by everything else. Anything that can solo well is very represented.

The best part about playing a duo is you always have someone that can bind of one of you plays a mêlée, which can remove the added hassle of travelling to a nee places.

Also dungeons are crazy insane experience. Too fast actually, but few complain.

I have grouped with plenty of necromancers. They've a lot of utility to offer in even a full group. Most people you encounter will not care much what class you are so long as you play it well. There are of course those though who will take issue with it, but in my experience those are a small minority and I cannot say I've heard a specific complaint about necromancere in that regard. Most irrational hatred is reserved for hybrids (though still uncommon) ^^
