Game was working. Exact reinstall will not fix. Ubuntu

Been playing for 2 days before i realized i didnt have spell particles. i reinstalled the game fresh using the steps and files that made it work 2 days ago. now i dont have the correct spell files. i am new to linux AND p1999 so i dont know which to address first, but to reiterate evertyhing but spell particles inlcuding the velious ui extras were working and now i cannot get the game to work on a fresh install. any insight would be helpful.
