Default Shammy spells with disease counters?

I am aware, I am a noob, lol. I can't seem to find any literature on Disease counters, can anyone explain how these work?

The disease line of dots seem to be very mana in-efficient at lower lvls. Does stacking Disease counters perhaps help in some way?

For example I noticed

Affliction (lvl 19 shaman) increases "disease counters" by 4

while

Walking Sleep (Lvl14) Increases "disease counters" by 6 in addition to slowing the enemy.

What, if any, are the potential benefits from stacking these "disease counters"?

When you use spells like Cure Disease or Abolish Disease they only remove a certain number of counters. So (using made up numbers) Cure Disease might only remove 2 counters, but Abolish Disease removes 6, so it would take two Cure Diseases to cure Affliction (4 counters) but only one Abolish Disease. Obviously this is only relevant if a mob casts a disease spell on you, (EvP) or when fighting other players (PvP); it's not so relevant in PvE because mobs don't cure themselves.

Hope that helps.

While not what I was hoping, that's exactly what I was looking for, I guess if I ever read the descriptions for the remove disease line I probably would've figured that out.

Thank you very much, I appreciate you taking the time to inform me.

Man it would've been nice if it boosted the damage on those disease dots... lol

Heh, it would be, but unfortunately the only way to increase DoT damage is with an appropriate focus item (ie. something that will never exist here on P99).
