Looking to Roll a Caster on Red

Hi all,

Currently looking to roll a caster on red, but am trying to avoid a class that is gimped. I played a mage/necro back on VZ and loved how powerful the pets were (could run away after /pet attack a lot and find the other guy dead). Looking for some advice on which caster to roll?

My pref is:

1. Mage
2. Necro
3. Wiz
4. Enc

I'm willing to do a shaman or druid but hate being a healer in groups. My end goal is to solo/group to late levels and raid/PVP from there.
