Default Surface 2 Pro / Windows 8

Freezes up every 10 to 15 minutes. (Not heat related)

I've tried shutting off the auto lock screen feature as this I thought had some correlation but no progress. Still doing the same thing.

Doesn't matter if I am in game or at char select.

Any suggestions? Logs I should post?

Thanks

This is my first post in the tech forums so don't take my word for anything more than just trying to help.

Try going into your eqclient.ini file and edit the line for windowed to windowed=TRUE. I've heard of people having issues in windows 8 with full screen mode. If that doesn't work you may try right clicking on your EQ icon and set it to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or XP. Let me know how it works.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried them before but double checked it all and still the same results.

Looked up how to disable the lock screen, even went as far as writing a registry key for disabling with the same results.

Next, anyone?

I haven't had an issue with my Surface Pro 1 - however prior to even playing EQ1 on it...
-I disabled the hard drive turning off on screen turnoff
-Disabled the wifi turning off after not being used in power settings
-Disabled UAC
-Disabled the permissions checks systemwide by enabling the administrator account so the EQ client could write to the EQTitanium directory (this makes the store not work, but no one uses the POS that is known as the windows store anyways)
-Disabled the screen flipping feature on display settings
-Updated drivers to latest (Intel 4000 series through windows update)
-Updated to Windows 8.1 for free

If you've done everything, and this still happens,
-Post a Logs/dbg.txt result from when it crashes.
-If it's an infinite loop hang and not a segmentation fault, try pressing alt+enter first to go into full screen and then press alt+enter again to return to windowed mode. This sometimes restarts the display on EQ clients.
-If that doesn't work sometimes the answer is still in dbg.txt. Post it anyways.

Disable UAC by editing the Windows 8 system registry (NOT recommended)

You can also force Windows 8 to disable UAC by modifying the system registry. To do this, edit the registry by setting the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\System to zero, then restart the system.

WARNING: Disabling UAC via this method also breaks many elements in Windows 8. As Hallum from Microsoft explains, “If you disable UAC via the reg hack the Windows 8 Start Screen and Windows Store apps will no longer function,” Hallum said. “Customers don’t want to go there.”
