Research Skill

so my wife is creating an enchanter as i type, so i figured the best class to partner her is a wizzy. having never done the research skill before, i just have 2 simple questions

can you research other classes spells in order to train up research?
and are there any other ways other than class trainer, and spell combines to train up? tried google but didnt really get anywhere

First major hurdle overcome... getting her interested again (we played for 5 years from kunark). guess the constant updates on what i was doing in game finally got to her hehe.
second major hurdle is waiting for the IP exemption to come through 8)

No (due to class specific research containers), and look up practice rune combines, which work for all classes to raise skill.
