Default Wiz Bolt vs Mag Bolt

What gives?

Surely anyone who has played both classes must have noticed.

Wiz bolt lands instantly, it isn't really even a "bolt" spell; it's more like a Shock spell.

Mag bolt travels slower than run speed to the target

Shouldn't these spell lines be more or less identical? Is this an unnoticed occurrence, an unpatched bug, or the dreaded 'classic' ?

They are different types of spells, Wizard doesn't get the same "bolt" like Mage does.

Bolt Spells are just what they say they are, Bolts!! they shoot out from the point of casting and strike the target after traveling for some distance. Having never played a wizard myself I can only guess it is more like a "jolt" spell as opposed to the classic bolt.

This is a good question OP.

I found the following thread. I think it's worth bumping now.

I played a wizard on Bristlebane (as Arkaan) from June 2000 until PoP

Wizard bolts were definitely bolts. They could be blocked by LoS, they could hit another target if it was in the path of the bolt.

You could cast a bolt untargeted and it would go across the whole zone unless it hit a tree or the ground etc. If it hit a mob it would dmg it.

All of this as a wizard. It is the only character I played all those years.
