Default Pets and XP sharing when solo

Hi guys,

I came to this server a couple days ago and really love it! I had a solid 12 years break from EQ and now look forward in leveling a few toons.

Since I like pet classes, I have a few questions. I'll make this easy for you - please state true/false for the following scenarios (all considered to be in solo play i.e. not in a group):

a) You need to do more damage than your pet to the mob you are fighting or you only receive half of the experience points the mob yields.

b) You lose XP when the pet does the killing blow.

c) You just need to do 1 damage to the mob - you still get full XP when your pet does the other 99%.

I understand c) is true while in a group. But I would like to know the answers for solo play.

I am absolutely not in a rush and I am taking it easy. However I still enjoy getting good XP per kill [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Thanks for your help guys!

PS.
For those of you wondering -- I know this is a multiplayer game and I play as much in a party as I can - mainly with my mate. But I am more online than he is so I also am playing alone sometimes - on top I live in EU time zone and most of the players of this server seem to be in USA time zones [You must be logged in to view images. Thank you Nycon.

I have another question on a related topic.

Being a mage, when I put a damage shield on my pet, does the damage generated by the shield account to my pet or to me? Would it make a difference if I cast the DS before pulling oder after getting on the mobs hate list?

The damage generated by the shield is considered "free" damage. It doesn't count as neither yours nor the pets.

Yeah. Fire pet seems to be the best to solo for me. the dmg shield is huge and doesn't count as the pets damage. Just watch the damage your pet does during a fight and make sure you do more by the end.

/who "your level range" to find a zone with players your level.

Rather than try to outdamage your pet I think you'll find a lot more efficient to either:
1. Just let buffed up pet take 50% and mow thru low blues
2. Reclaim pet and finish with nuke for full exp.

If you try to outdamage your pet you're gonna have a lot more downtime and/or pull agro and get the smack down.

Thanks guys, good tips inside.

I am not a min/maxer and I cannot afford burning through reagents. I am okay now with doing 50%+ dmg. Currenty I am pulling yellows and throw 3-4 nukes at the mob while the pet does the rest. No agro issues if I give the pet a headstart. Thanks again [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
