Newbie guide (includes tips on making money): http://wiki.project1999.com/Players:Newbie

In terms of joining a guild, just keep at it. Messaging guilds you see around and asking to talk to officers is a good way to go about it.

I wouldn't worry too much about gear but I would prioritize getting a good primary weapon. Farm up 100-200 platinum, go to EC, and buy something cheap. Damage/delay ratio is important, as is having a high damage (better backstabs). Stuff you can buy in EC will be way better than anything you can quest/loot yourself.

In terms of grouping, as a rogue you will be in high demand, regardless of your gear.

Except that no matter what your level, most groups will shun you for not having your epic. I've been invited to a group a few times, only to have them disband me saying specifically because i didnt have mine.

Sadly true.

if this is your first character really try to not let this bother you, it might be hard but some people on this server are so hardcore they will boot a lvl 10 rogue because hes not epic...

just put them on the don't group with list and if they ask for you to drag their corpse make sure you take it as deep into a dungeon as possible and "lose" it

This is just plain false. Most groups would never do this pre-50s. If this has been the case with you then you have been incredibly unlucky.

And, may I add, that despite all the negative shit you may read on the forum, the overwhelming majority of people here are great and fun as hell to get to know. The negative stuff (when it actually happens which is quite seldom in my experience) just stands out because, well, it's negative and contrary to the rest of the experience here on p99.

welcome,

i'd switch to monk while you're still young. Comparable damage and many perks :P
My experience with rogue is lots of sitting LFG.

Aren't there a lot of monks though? I know you can double up monks in a group as puller/DPS, but for raiding, are there so many spots available?

I am a newbie here, so this perception may be way off the mark, but I thought it was worth asking.

oh they do. I didn't get my epic finished until 52 (100% classic, no MQ) - and the min/max crowd doesn't appreciate a rogue with no epic.
