EQ won't go from Server select to Char select

it crashes with this error message in full screen and windowed mode both.

I'm using a win7 laptop and I have a Ati mobility radeon 5450 HD in it.

Anyone an idea?

not sure if it will work but worth a try, try to run with windows compatability mode for xp, copy eq to a thumb drive and start the game from that. There should be a program to "help you install eq, i think it's called something like "eqemu installer", could just need a fresh install. Iirc, the eqemu installer auto-installs what you need to run eq on a multi-core computer.
