Default Alliance (Enchanter spell)

Anyone actually know how this spell works? Allakhazam says that it raises your faction with the targeted NPC's faction by 100, with instant duration, apparently implying that you can just cast this spell enough times and you'll be at max faction with every faction. This would be nice were it the case, but I get the feeling that it isn't. What's the deal?

Also not stack wit' self. So no matter how many times you is castin' it, it still jus' gives you 100 total faction... thingies.

If this "100 faction" thing is on the same scale as like the chardok faction thing where faction hits were like in the thousands - seems like a pretty lame effect. I remember just jumping faction levels for a couple were over 2000 faction hits.

Kind of curious how the faction scale works.

Just to be clear, it is permanent until you zone. Once you zone, the faction reverts to what it was before you cast it.

It only boosts faction once. Multiple casts (on mobs of the same faction) will do no more than the first cast did.

edit: I believe that this is fairly accurate, Loke, at least for classic (not sure about here)... http://www.therunes.net/faction.htm

Thanks, Mal - this is the answer I was looking for. Pretty lame spell, lol.

Very often the way it used to work on Live was that if you were threatening it could bump you to dubious or from dubious and so on.

Benevolence was slightly better in that it could occasionally bump you up by 2 cons instead of one.

As far as being KoS, it was only effective if you just started becoming KoS to a certain faction. So it's nice for being able to do quests you normally shouldn't do because of the faction hit. Then you can use an alliance spell just long enough to do some newbie faction quests to fix said faction.

You can also skip certain faction grinds all together with this spell. In some cases you need to be amiable or ally before you can start the quest even though you start out as indifferent. SolRo quests are a good example. I didn't have to do squat to raise my Solro faction.

As most folks have said:

Alliance is +100
Benevolence is +200
Collaboration is +300 when it makes it in.

Here's how faction breaks down:

Quote:
  • 1001 and up = Ally
  • 701 to 1000 = Warmly
  • 401 to 700 = Kindly
  • 101 to 400 = Amiably
  • 0 to 100 = Indifferently
  • -100 to -1 = Apprehensively
  • -700 to -101 = Dubiously
  • -999 to -701 = Threateningly
  • -1000 and below = Scowls
Not all consider levels are created equal. Dubious is an exceptionally large gap. Amiable used to be an equally large gap. Kindly and ally were introduced shortly after Velious. Nothing really changed behind the scenes in terms of faction. It just gave folks a more visible delineation and the live devs the ability to require max faction, once players had a tangible way of telling that they had it.

My list is a bit different...

* Ally (+4): 1450 to 2500
* Warmly (+3): 1100 to 1450
* Kindly (+2): 750 to 1100
* Amiable (+1): 150 to 750
* Indifferent (0): 0 to 150
* Apprehensive (-1): 0 to -150
* Dubious (-2): -150 to -750
* Threateningly (-3): -750 to -1100
* Ready to Attack (-4): -1100 to -2500

It way, both lists show just how effective the alliance line can be in certain situations.
(In the case of Cabalis faction come Kunark, it means I need to collect 300 less bone chips than everyone else.)
