DSETUP.DLL keeps getting delted - cant run the game

After the many hoops to jump through of setting this game up I am not sure it will eve run. It keeps giving an error that said file is missing, when i I unzip it there, it gives a different error first then sure enough its gone again. Obviously my computers protection sytem well not allow this file to live right? Am I wasting my time?

Could you be more specific about the error(s) you are receiving? Which files are you told are missing, and when are you told that they are missing?

DSETUP.DLL is missing, hence my topic. I know its in the files I need to unzip, so I do, and every time I run the game it gets a failure, and then it gets deleted somehow. It's going to be an endless cycle.

I had this happen to myself. Emergency fix is to disable ur anti virus then copy in the file, run the game and then activate your anti virus again.

I fixed this problem by just adding the file as an exception for my anti virus.

That. The backstory is that Nilbog is now doing virus-like things as part of the anti-cheat code, and so many anti-virus programs think it's a virus. By excepting the file you essentially say "I understand that P99 now has virus-like power over my PC ... but that's ok, I (along with 1k+ other users) trust P99."

You're only other option is to not play Project 1999, or convince Nilbog to not stop cheaters.

You can do a search for DDL issues and find the answer to your problems. Only about 30 threads about it.

not that it matters. sounds like I have to find a way to make mcafee exempt. Nowhere in this thread did I say I wanted the file to be deleted so I am not sure why people are telling me 1k people trust this file as if I intentionally deleted it.

Everything I search says Mcafee has no exceptions ability. I searched the term on the forums here and I saw a few positive looking threads but they just ended up in some juvenile flame war and told me nothing. Does anyone know of a way to TRULY hush mcafee short of uninstalling which is what I had to do temporarily. I tried the old turn off firewall/realtime a/v scan but it still deleted the file.

Turning off McAffee, unzipping the files, then turning mcaffee back on after you have started up EQ is your best bet. I avoid Mcafee like the plague and have even refused to work on clients computers unless they agree to remove it, so I'm not sure how to add an exception. It should be fairly simply depending on what exact piece of software it is you're using (Mcaffee has several "types" of anti-virus software). Try a google search if you haven't already (if you don't want to go the "disable - > re-enable" route). Also make sure you didn't install EQ into the Program Files\ or Program Files (x86)\ folders, as these are protected by UAC and will cause you all kinds of problems (including not copying files properly).

As stated in the sticky'd post, I'd highly recommend getting something other than Norton or McAfee. AVG is a good free solution, though is has the same lazy flagging problems as the other two. Webroot and Kaspersky's (for advanced users) are my two favorites for paid options. I hear a lot of good things about bitdefender being a happy medium between these two products, but have no personal experience with either, so I can't comment on how it functions.

Good luck! Really serious about the McAfee/Norton thing. Minimal protection, horrible system interference, and awful performance really make these products much more of a headache than they are worth. Can't tell you how many times I've seen these programs let legitimately harmful files through their nets while flagging innocuous files left and right and generally causing havoc.


Edit: Also worth noting that Kaspersky and Webroot have superb live, over the phone tech support.
